(I deleted my previous thread cause it wandered off-topic. I finally got the engine squared away and test drove it today)

I cammed down from the Poston 118 cam to the TA 290-94H to try to bring the powerband a bit lower. Really the cams are about the same size but the TA is done on a 110 LSA and the Poston on a 118 LSA

The Poston 118 really would have liked a 3200 stall in my combo, but I wasnt comfortable on the street with that. too "slippy", and I didnt want to rev my engine to 6000rpm at WOT, which the 118 would have liked.

Anyhow, my test drive went well with the TA cam. It feels a bit more "mid-rangey", and still has that street-strip cam long pull. I am hoping that this cam's powerband is a bit more useful to me. Its still a bit big of a cam for my low comp 350.

Ive got a little more tinkering/tuning to do and some more test driving.
I will keep posting results, especially once we reach the spring/summer and I start shooting it with the nitrous and take it to the track.

I went for a spin today after fiddling with the Quadrajet a bit.

Picked up noticeable off the line performance. I am going to tinker some more and try to get the most out of it. It still feels mid-rangey, and I think its supposed to.

One issue with my current setup is I am testing a 3.23 posi axle. This cam wants a 3.73 ratio IMO. I also need to change my shift points to 5500 instead of 5000rpm.

Now when I hit it with the 50 shot, thats when the torque comes in.....naturally. Forces the converter to slip up into the powerband more quickly.

Definitely the cam comes into its power sooner than the Poston 118 cam.

Will advise as I drive it more and up the nitrous shot......manohman was that fun today smokin rubber

swapped in a 3.36 posi rear and a new TH350 trans today. 2400 stall converter

surprising how much difference the small change in gear made.

when it drops from 3-2 cruising around and getting on it, it really hits hard.

I am starting to like this cam. Need more miles on it and some dry streets to get reckless on. Hard to get off the line hard with all the sand and crap on the road.

I still think it might like some more gear...like 3.42

I have collected 3.73 gears and a 3 series posi. I will be picking up an 8.5" 10 bolt end of April it looks like. So I should have a 3.73 posi setup to try out come racetime.

currently running a 3.08 posi and its not a good match. still goes, but not a good match.

4:11 rear built up, need to install it. (got a deal on the posi and gears at a swap!)

Going to couple it with a 200-4R built with hard parts.

Hope to have it ready by the Buick Day at Lebanon. Just havent had time to work on it this spring yet.

4:11 rear installed

WOW the engine loves those RPMs

cruising around town 2500ish, converter stalls 2400ish

highway speeds = @4000 RPM maybe hi 3800+ rpms with the TH350.

I really like the gears. Need to get the OD trans built.

Nitrous 75 shot hits HARD with these gears.

headers never again. I cant stand the install

how about a s/c setup? boost is my next thing. That Carcraft Ebay Turbo article a few months back really got me interested in cheap boost

I am going to nitrous the heck out of it this summer with the 290-94 then mayybe swap in the comp268 and nitrous it to gather some comparison notes

Then its off to boost land in some shape or form.

I will run the econo-build stock 430 while working on the boost setup for the 350.

I am in almost the same boat as before with the large cam and lo compression. relatively lazy low end that wants stall converter speed 3000+ and high numerical gears. or nitrous...

Looking forward to some track time soon

Finally ran the car with the 290-08H and 4:11 gearing.

had trouble getitng the tires to hook...they squealed a bit on each launch.

bestrun on 100shot NOS
.155react
2.039 60ft
5.539 330
8.512 660
82.57 MPH1
11.093 1000
13.288 1320
102.48 MPH2

You can see 60 ft was a bit slow, should have been about .3 quicker - I attribute that to the wheelspin

The rest of the run went very well.

I do think that I lost a little bit because I am going through 2.250 manifolds now instead of the headers that ran 12.8 or so.

Anyhow it was fun.

definitely! Looking forward to Buick Day

Bring that 350 flexplate! My test motor is ready to explode

I just got a look at the videos that were taken of my runs wed night....I definitely need longer burnouts. Somehow they seemed lots longer in the car.

thanks for reminding me. i changed to a smaller blower pulley on ours. seems to like it better. still need a bigger car. will talk to you about that. only weak link we have is trannys. gotta stop using used trannys.
