I just was given a block that has been bored but the shop that did the work
is no longer around & the guy that had owned the block has passed away.
I have a telescoping gage that will go from 3.5 inches to 6 inches, & a 6 inch
dial caliper. I just need to know what the process is to get the right measurements, I.E. how deep in the bore do I need to put the telescoping
gage before it gets locked in ? as always thanks in advance.

:BEERS: Check the bore anywhere in the cylinder. Dial calipers will get you close, between .001"- .010" depends on you. Telescope gages work great if you have the touch , along with a pair of mic's to read them.

When I checked the bore's back in my engine honing day's , I used a dial bore gage set to the piston size, exactly. I would hone three (.003") thousands or more from the bore, this would ensure all the rough stuff was out and the bore was round. I measured the bottom of the bore looking at it square from the exaust side, then the middle and on the top, this checked for diameter and taper (top to bottom is taper). good luck

I suggest you take it to Earick Racing's shop. They should be fairly close to you. I think this is the email. mrbuick@cgate.net
