I just found an auction on ebay for a 70 GS 455 ( 4600 series ) fan shroud. I clicked on it hoping to see Frank as the seller, but it looks like an olds vendor selling it. I cant see enough in the pics to judge how exact it is, but if you want to check it out go to item # 4630565492

$159.00 no reserve.

One day no parts, the next day everybody is offering a repro item. Opinions?

Its probably supplied to them by TPP as they just came out with theres. I just received mine today. Its OK as a driver but thats about it. Ever see how Y1 has that scale in there catolog on how they rate there repro parts so you can expect what your getting. Well i'd rate this at the bottom of the scale. It will work but as far as looks go. Not that great in my opinion.

I guess I'd like to hear from Duane from a judges standpoint. Repro to me means it is as exact a copy as possible. A replacement part means it will work meeting the form fit and function of the OEM part, but no one will confuse it for an original.
Jim - what cars will you use them in - drivers or show cars?

Bill,
I have not seen these shrouds in person but I have heard some comments from people that have bought them. They are driver quaility at best. They possibly could be used for your local car shows. Not Show cars or numbers correct people like me.

I too have misunderstood the term repo and 100% correct statements that I have heard coming from some company's making parts for our cars.
I like many Buick people want a part that is as good or better than the original in appearence and fit/function. The Parts Place parts are driver quality in my opinion. Unless it is stated as concours parts do not expect perfection.

I fell into this trap. Maybe it is my fault but I assumed that the parts being made will be hard to tell from the OEM part except by GM part #'s missing etc....

So that puts me back to square one. Looking for excellent original parts instead of paying for these certain repo parts. I would rather pay considerably more for a part that i know is perfect than pay a good amount of money for something driver quality that I will not be happy with!

I will chime in here as well.... I went to Kevin's house yesterday and he showed me his Parts Place fan shroud. I will be very honest and say what a pile of scrap...Whoever had the braintrust to decide to glue the bolt mounts and hose hook should be ashamed of themselves. Another thing that is horrific is that they sold these non correct (or even close) piles of plastic for 139 now 169.I am not into the correct only parts pieces as I am a drag racer type, but I will be dipped in crap before I would use this on any of my cars. I would rather run a big car shroud first. In my opinion,TPP is only taking some of our illustrious members for a ride and they don't have enough common sense to realize they are being taken. From first-hand experience as well as testimonials from several others on here as well as V8 Buick. I think its time to let TPP know that their trashy parts wont be tolerated. How about they do some more better looking parts like the 71 GS grille instead of the (make profit) not near correct parts? As for Shane...You should be ashamed of your attitude.Customers are your most important thing in your business..not your arrogant attitude. I will be attending Yardleys picnic and I would like to discuss with the TPP supporters the truth. As for TPP,I would rather pay Y1 twice as much for their parts, since I know they will be correct appearing...

:WOW: :DOU: :RE: glue? that is no good. I'm sure it is extremely hard to make stuff correct, but that sounds bad.

The pictures were not any help. That would prevent me from bidding too. kinda surprised though that not one person felt desperate enough to bid. I think I'll want to see one before I fork over the dough.

Wow, that's quite a contrast to other's opinions here so far. How does it compare to the fiberglass repro shrouds that have been available elsewhere? Better? Worse? And can you confirm that yours have glued-on mounts and hose hooks also?

One thing I've learned is that everyone has a different view of what is nice, and what is crap. Seems to really depend on what our personal expectations are, and how we perceive the item to be represented by the mfgr. I don't need one of these shrouds, so I won't be able to give a personal review. But I am surprised to hear the neg reviews, I thought they looked pretty decent in the V8 threads, but pics can be deceiving. :PUZ:

David,
I know I seem to have a negative attitude toward TPP,but I have seen personally first-hand the quality of their parts. I can see if Kevin could take his oput and I will be more than willing to post a few pictures of the shrouds. My problem is that Shane is free to bash other products(GSCA Grille,Postons 455 shroud) but have a product no better or perhaps even worse(70 GS grille paint and stud problem,Shroud) Their worst thing is their attitude toward "US"Buick owners. They called "US" whiners and complainers to Dustin on the phone and have told others like George N that they were right and he was wrong. In my opinion,if you want tomake it selling repro parts, you best listen to the people who are buying them. What they did to guys like Rusty D,Mike G and tried doing to Duane on the front spoilers was a tactic that should not be tolerated. But,this is the opinion of many, but written about from me.I will gladly discuss this subject with fairness ans facts to back up my point.
