hello all..nice group you have here. First off, if this is the wrong thread I apologize.

To start out Im alittle green when it comes to Buicks, and to working on cars. BUT, after years of dreaming about a muscle machine and driving ricers, I finally bought a Buick!!
1971 Rivi Boattail...for $650 (lets you know what Im in for)
I was able to drive it 180 miles home....smoking like mad all the way.
Long story short
I am now battling a few problems..and learning alot as i go..but could use some advice before I go spending a buncha money.

Blowby! like crazy...after a compression check all cylinders were around 150 except for cyl. 2 and 4 which were 60. after putting oil into the plug chambers there was no change in compression.

stuck valve or head gasket?

the horrible blowby made me think it was a ring..but i did change the pcv to make sure it wasnt something there.

Im also getting oil into the distributer cap...I dont know why on this one although Im also getting oil blowing out of the dipstick and through the breather as well......

sorry for being long winded...any advice would be appreciated....Im hoping I can get away with doing the top end and not having to pull the motor.

Thanks in advance

Have a leak down test performed, it will tell where the air is leaking. (Intake valve, Exhaust valve, leaking past head gasket to other cylinder, leaking past rings in to crankcase, ect.) Thats the best place to start.

I don't have any expaination for oil inside the dist cap, except oil was there prior to start up.:PUZ:

Thanks much for the replies! I will do a leakdown test this weekend. Im really hoping its not the rings.
As for the dist. cap. It is a new one, that I installed. The old one was getting oil in there as well. I was told there may be an 'O' ring down above the gear that has blown. I may have to pull it this weekend and see.
