Duane or anyone that may know. What is the diffrences in the 70 GS grilles. I am in the process of restoring 2 70 GS grilles and I noticed a diffrence between them. Thanks for the lesson in advance...:BEERS: One is thinner and one is thicker across the top to include a brace in the center.

The one with the thicker top and brace in the center is a replacement, or late model year part.

I think I remember reading that they changed the design mid-year. uhh....Duane?:PUZ:

I was thinking the same thing Adam but was not 100% sure. My car is an early production car which make it a good thing that I have the correct grille for it. (possibly) Thanks for your thoughts guys.:TU:

The original grills were gray plastic and did not have the gusset in the center. At some point GM put the gusset in and changed the plastic from gray to black. I think they did that in the 80's re-release of the grill

Phil, you rang,
Yes there are 2 types. The early style are the ones without the brace at the top, the later ones have the brace and I think have a slight bevel at the top. The early ones, that I have seen, are ALL made of gray plastic, while the later ones, are usually made of black plastic.

The jury is still out as to whether the ones with the added brace were supplied late in the production year, or if they were all replacements, but either style have always been acceptable with the judging.

My gut feeling is they had a problem with the grills cracking and you are seeing their "fix".

Duane and Jason, looking at both the grills. They are both tan color If you would like a pic of this I can shoot it for you. Neither of these grilles are black plastic. Hope this helps everyone. :TU:

Mine has the gusset like the one in the picture on the left. And the plastic is grey. i have it sanded down and have couple of breaks to repair. it is grey all the way through....

Maybe this is telling us that there was a late production year change to fix the problem. Then the same mold was used in later years to produce but they used black? hmmm...

i wishi could send pix but i can't find my pixela disk to relad my camera softwear(i had to pullit off-it was corrupt)
