After my 11.94@113.36 best at the BPG Nats,I went home and straightened a bunch of stuff out that I think was really holding me back. One item that I stumbled upon was the fuel line from the pump to the carb. The dual feed line I was using had a major restriction in it. The flare they used at the carb only had a 3/16 opening in it:WOW: . The first picture shows the flare in the old dual feed line. The second picture illustrates the difference in diameter between the old line and the new line. One drill bit is 3/16, the other is 9/32- not quite 5/16. Quite a difference I think. I also replaced my 12 year old Airtex fuel pump. That ough to give me a little more volume. Check out the new custom dual feed line line I made:TU:

Im Also going to try out a new 950 Holley. Im running an 850 right now, but since Dave Shaker had some success with his "big ass carb", I'll give it a try. If it goes slower, I'll just put my 850 back on. I ought to put an electric fuel pump on. How fast has someone gone on just a stock mechanical?
I know Larry is going to smack me in the back of the head for this one-Another item that I didnt have adjusted right was the timing. I thought I had the initial advance set at 14 degrees. I have 21 in the distributor, all coming in at 3500. Well, I didnt. After I got home I checked the timing. It was set at 8 degrees initial:DOU: I set it back to where it should be at 14. Man, the car woke up!!! It felt like I added another cylinder.
I threw out my cheapo paper auto parts store air filter and picked up a K&N with the air filter top element ( I forget what they call it).
And lastly, I fixed the kickdown for the T-400, which for some reason was disconnented:PUZ: .
So with all that, and a little more experience at starting line tequnique, Im hoping I can get at least another .2-.3 out of it at National Trails this coming August. I would love for it to go 11.50s. I cant wait!!!

That was an obvious piece of crap you were using there Jason, glad you changed it. On the new pipe, the 90* bend does crush the pipe a bit there also, reducing the I.D. somewhat throughout the radius.:HI:

I hate those cheapie dual feed lines. They NEVER fit!
But for some reason... I've still bought several of them over the years and ended up throwing each one away. :DOU:
New setup looks great Jason. Your 455 should love the bigger carb and more timing. :TU:

Why wouldn't you just bite the bullet and get a dual feed AN line??? I wont go back to stock stuff again, just for the reason you posted. I have 8 AN all the way from the tank to carb, except through the regulator...

I figured the steel line and brass "T" would give it a semi-stock look. Plus it was cheap as hell! :T: I think it cost me $7.00 for everything. Im trying not to cut the car up too much. I never intended it to be a "race car" . I cringed when I had to drill a hole in the dash for the guages. One day before I sieze up, Im going to restore it back to stock.
I should of went to Atco, but I want to plan ahead and save my money for the 07 season. My wallet really took a hit between going to Minnesota for the BCA Nats and the BPG event this year. Plus all the other non-car crap I had to pay for. Its been an expensive year. Im also trying to save up some coin for a new enclosed trailer this spring:BROW: . We'll see how that works out.

Just get the Holley one. Fits perfectly and is 3/8" through and through.

Jason,
Don't use teflon tape on those threads. Bits will break off an plug small orifices in the carb. Those threads don't seal anything anyway, the tapered seat does.
I agree. Sans Tape!!! :DOU:
If anything just use some teflon paste to lube threads. That way you get it to tighten smoothly with less wear and tear when R/R'ing the carb for jet changes.. :TU:

Im Also going to try out a new 950 Holley.
If you have anything over a stock 455, you WILL see an improvement. Get a Quick Fuel - they use ProForm bodies and metering blocks. Holley quality really sux any more.
I have 21 in the distributor, all coming in at 3500.
You want it all in by 2500.
I threw out my cheapo paper auto parts store air filter and picked up a K&N with the air filter top element ( I forget what they call it).
Fine. But at the track, run without an air filter altogether.

I had the 750 on there from the 400 motor. I went to a 4150 1000HP. On pump gas it farts a little but still cranks it out at wot. :GT:
Actually it runs great on the street, idles at lights smooth and takes off with no hesitation.
I have the rearend apart and have new 3.55 gears coming for it. Should put me in the 11's next year at Atco. :TU:
