I recently purchased my 72 skylark convertible. She's very nice, except the rear bumper has about an 1 1/4" gap between the top of the rear bumper and the bottom of hte trunk lid...like the bumper is slipping down.
Are the bumper frame mount holes slotted so that I can raise the bumper and correct this?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Bruce
Yes the bumper is adjustable just like the other years. There should also be two big rubber blocks under the front top edge of the bumper that slide onto the pinchweld and help hold it in place. With the trunklid open, you should be able to see these looking down, about 18" in from each side. These hlep support the bumper and if missing can cause issues. Make sure they are there.
First open licence plate and loosen off the two small bolts there...these run down to the rear frame crossmember. You can back them right out until 1/4 gap or so...they will slide up and down as needed on the slot in the bumper, but make sure they are free.
Then just support bumper with freinds or jacks, and there are two big frame to bracket bolts on each side (4 total), loosen them off a touch and see if you can shift it to where you want the bumper, then tighten everything up again.
