Now I know the answer is no if your gonna paint the car, but mines gonna be in primer for awhile. I wouldn't bother, but I have two problems with the primer job.

#1 This was my first tape and flame job. As hard as I tried, there is a few areas that paint got around the tape. I'd like to rub it off with rubbing compound

#2 Heres the biggie. I have these two weird shiny spots on both quarter panels. I think the uphoulstry shop guys either got something on it, or they rubbed against it till it built up a shine. It won't scrub down to the semi gloss, and I tried solvent, but I am afraid to try thiner.

Suggestions? Tips?? Thanks!!!

Dan,I wouldn't apply any wax over the etch primer because if and when you want to paint it,you will have an awful time to get the paint to stick. Besides, etch primer is the worst thing you can do without paint. It literally draws anything and everything and in very little time you will have rusted metal.

I suppose you could wet sand it a bit to even out the finish, but then you'd probably have to do the whole thing! I'm with Carl, though...applying anything like wax is asking for trouble later.

On another note, epoxy primer generally doesn't like to deal with paint once it's well past it's cure stage. You may have to scuff it and spray another coat to guarantee adhesion. To play it safe you can always contact a rep from whichever brand you purchased to get the lowdown.

I've heard of guys using a mild abrasive to remove rust stains on old paint jobs.... Would you believe Comet or Ajax? Bon Ami would be less abrasive.
I sorta remember corn starch being used as a mild abrasive as well.
For the shiny spots, I'd try a good detergent. If that doesn't work, try wax and grease remover.
Epoxy primer will fade from exposure to sunlight. It is fairly water-proof tho.
