Clay bar will work but make a lightly soapy solution to use as you scrub the painted surface. If you drop the clay on the ground THROW IT AWAY!!!

Just use a spray detailer as a lubricant.

When the bar gets dirty, just "fold it over onto itself" a few times and it is clean again.

A GOOD Clay Bar will pull contaminents out of the paint without scratching...:TU:

A few tips

- There are a couple of grades, depending on the "cut" that you want to use. They are generally different colors. The grey color is a "light" cut which is usually sufficient for most "claying"

- When you use the clay bar, just pull off a little piece, much like the old timers did with chewing tobbaco. The reason for this is, as posted above if it hits the ground, THROW IT AWAY.

- Keep folding the piece of clay over as you use it - when the piece becomes dirty, THROW IT AWAY.

- I always use a Quick Detailer for a lubricant. Lube up a 2 X 2 foot area and run the clay over the area in stright lines LIGHTLY. LET THE CLAY DO THE WORK - DO NOT TREAT IT LIKE SANDPAPER - CLAY CAN MAR YOUR FINISH IF YOU PUT PRESSURE ON IT. Patience, patience, patience!:DOU:

- If you feel the clay start to drag - apply more lubricant.

- Wipe with a Microfiber towel.

Claying is really one of the true advances in maintaining a perfect finish! I do my daily driver twice a year. Think of it like this - the cleaner and smoother your finish is before applying wax - the better it will look. Just like painting a wall...

Try this test. Rub your hand over the finish. Feels pretty good, right? Now put your fingers in a peice of cellophane or plastic bag and do the same thing. Chances are you will feel "bumps". What the plastic is doing is increasing your sense of touch, allowing you to feel the real stuff in your finish that you can't feel or see without it. Clay the surface, then do the same thing with the plastic baggie. Smooth as a baby's butt!

Also - don't think that you have to do the whole car at once - keep it fun! For example, knock out the hood, then another time the fenders, etc....

There are differences in grades of clay. For example, we have many people come up to us at shows with clay that they bought at a retailer. They are amazed when we show them the difference in between retail products and professional grade clay. It is like using a wrench from the dollar store or using a snap-on.

The other thing, clay is NOT a cure-all. It is well suited to remove overspray, rail dust, industrial fallout and most contaminents out of the finish - it won't help with acid rain water spots, etc......

Hope this helps!!!!

The grey bar that we carry and sell to the trade is a light cut - which I prefer. The lavendar/purple ones are a medium cut. I only reccomend them in more extreme cases. The grey should work just fine in about all cases - it just might take a little longer on tough contaminents - but again is the exception rather than the rule.

Some of the clay bars that I have seen carried in retail shop are small, and there is a difference in the quality of clay. The BEST ones come from Japan.

I have seen yellow ones, etc......which I gotta believe is just a color thing for marketing (retail). I have only personally used ours for obvious reasons

We had a fellow at the Chrysler Classic in Bowling Green, KY this past weekend come up to our booth that had paid $30 for a clay bar and said he didn't like it. We did a demo with our clay bar, which was bigger and he bought one of ours @ 24.95. The other factor in his decision might have also been that we took the time with him to teach him how to use it properly.

I hope that this helps. For what you are trying to do, one of the consumer versions might just work fine.....don't know without looking at the surface or trying one on it.

Again, I am spoiled using professional products and just can't go back to using consumer-grade stuff.

I just want you all to know that I am here to help, not neccesarily p-i-m-p my products.....I want to add value to the board. :BROW:

Our products are not the right fit or the magic pill in ALL cases (but in 99.5% of the time they are superior in time and results).

Can't wait to spread some Jax Wax love in August!!!!:YA:

Just ask them if they have clay bars - they should. Ask them if they have different "cuts" of clay bars - you more than likely want the "mild cut".

If they do have one, ask them how to use it. They should share that with you, and should be right along the lines of what I posted earlier. Also ask them that if it doesn't work for your particular situation, can you bring it back and get your hard earned $$$ back. :BROW:

If you don't feel comfortable with their answers, etc....get back to me and we can hook you up. All with a $$$$ gty. :TU:

If you do feel comfortable with that - pull the trigger and give it a shot.

It would be nice if soemone that you knew had one already so you could try it on the contamination that you are seeing before you bought one......does it feel rough to the touch or with the plastic bag trick? If so, clay will probably do the trick.

That's why we do a "Try it before you buy it" when trying to solve finish problems at shows, etc..... then if what we have doesn't do what you want it to, reccomend another course of action....makes for happy campers!:BEERS:

For example, we had one guy come up to my guy Bryan at a show last year and wanted a clay bar (I wasn't there). When he tried to delve into what he was trying to do, or would he like to know how to use it, he said Just give me the clar bar.

He came back 2 hours later and wanted his money back. Bryan went over there to try to help him and to find out he was trying to remove rust off from chrome.:WOW:

We of course gave him a refund and Bryan advised him to try a different course of action.

If you need to talk to me about this, give me a call at 614-785-0117.

We will be traveling later tonight to the ATL for a show - not sure if the cell phone works at the track or not.....

Thanks Scott. Do you guys have more than 1 cut of clay bar? I could just find the mild, and not the medium you talked about. I was trying to come up with $99 of products to get the free shipping and was having a hard time getting there.

Thanks, Chris
