Took my 98 Riv to the Street Legal drags today at Interstate Dragways in Sabin MN. Really haven't done anything to it yet, though I have a pile of goodies on the workbench... so it's basically stock. I'm just looking to get some baseline performance #'s today before I start to play with it.

First run I'm matched up with a late model Monte SS running a 75 shot. Had talked to him and looked over his car during tech, stock except for the juice. I got the jump on him at the lights and he couldn't catch up, though he was quicker and faster. I ran a 15.35 @ 90 to his 15.32 @ 93, but he couldn't make up for the .27 I had him on the launch. In fact, I got the jump on the competition on all 5 runs I made today.

Four more runs after that, mostly 15.48's, but did run a best of 15.33 on one of them. This was my first time racing a FWD car, and traction became an issue after that first run. Since these cars don't have a limited slip diff, I had to be careful not to go WOT too quickly, as the tranny's don't care much for one wheel burnouts. This also means no waterbox burnouts for the Riv, but I was able to drive around the water.

I'm hoping to have my 4" FWI, smaller SC pulley, and a few other supporting mods done before the next races in a month. Shouldn't have any trouble getting into the 14's, but I gotta figure out the FWD launch, had too much tire spin in my last runs. :DOU:

Dave I did that to kid driving a Audi S4 with a larger turbo, HUGE intercooler, and a larger intake MAP(?).

It sucks have the faster car and losing. :PANTS:

That big Riv with that little SC'd six does low 15's? I have new respect for them. Bet he was surprised too. :BEERS:

Yeah, he avoided me for the next 2 hours...

I've managed to make time to swap in a 180 thermostat, replace the fuel filter, drop-in K&N filter, and yesterday did my 3.6 SC pulley swap. Couldn't get to my plugs and wires, nor make any progress with putting my FWI together yet. Back to the Street Legal stuff next Saturday, hoping to get close to 15.0's. Once I get my FWI done, it'll be time to go with a 3.4 pulley, smallest I'll run. 14's should be easy at that point, and probably won't mod any further, since it's my DD.

I hear you on the mods. You don't want to hurt anything on a DD. Have you considered a small shot of nitrous? From kicking around the Regal and GTP boards a 50-75 shot would be fine.

Does this mean we'll get to read about Davey Gramlowin another magazine - perhaps GMHTP ??

....you know there was mention of you again this month in Hemmings :DOU:

Congrats on the times

No F'N way!!! Are you serious? George Mattar himself told me they would make a point of screening out anything looking even remotely like my name. What issue is it in, June? I almost picked one up last weekend. I have to see this, then George is going to hear from me again... :SPANK:

Nope, that stuff's not for me. What I really need is someone in the area with a DHP or HPT to do a little fine-tuning of the PCM, like fixing the soft Riviera shifting characteristics. Man, the 2-3 shift takes forever. Gotta try running it in 2 next time out, and watch the rpm's.
