Poston or TA 350 intake?
Which one would you buy and why?
Which one sells better used?

There is just no way I'm gonna be able to get my stock intake on right and not screw up the gooping needed to seal it up right. Id need an engine hoist to even get close to right. I don't even wanna try or know anyone who could help as everyone I know has bad backs like me and leaning over the engine and trying to get that sucker back on right is gonna be near impossible.
Guess you could say I'm itching to use my new CC but I really wanna do this all right the first time and know Ill end up pulling the sucker to do it again if I try to use the stock 900lb intake.
I do have two intake gaskets if I screw up but I don't wanna even try at this point. I'm fooling myself thinking I can lift n get that sucker on right myself.
so far Poston will be $312 shipped, dunno on TA price yet [stupid catalog is 25megs] but TA is selling them on Ebay with a starting bid of $300

A SINGLE PLANE INTAKE !!!
now that said, i have not recieved any feedback from my fax to T/A about the 350 s/p. :BLAST: :BLAST: :BLAST:
making the s/p 350 is easy. thats already been established. but if you continue to ignore part of your customer base, you will eventually lose a lot more in the long run. if somebody else comes out with it first and its a proven product, you will never catch up and will lose more of your customer base to somebody else.
AND that's not rocket science.............
i guess you are on your own as to which intake to use.

You'll get the TA off ebay. I've seen them end with no bids. Side note, there is a guy just a little south east of Philly with a complete 72 that has the TA intake and TA valve covers (that cover roller rockers) for $300. A smokin deal, but you got to pick it up. I was there and would have bought it, but I didn't know about it until 2 days after I got back. I just P/U headers (he wouldn't ship), didn't get to go in his garage, or else I would have seen and bought it too.:DOU: I bet it is still available, found him on the other board (v8).
Anyway, if you buy the TA off ebay, buy their composite gaskets($20), and buy a pan from AMP($35)http://www.automachperf.com/oilsystems.html
Yeah it ain't free, but well worth it.:TU: It is not easy to seal an aluminum intake with the factory steel gasket...:CRAP:

But TA announced the all aluminum BBB 5 years ago, and yet to have sold (or made any). They have NOT announced a single plane 350 intake. You do the math.:HI:

Almoat why I don't wanna buy the TA intake, it will just encourage them to hold off even longer as their dual plain is still selling.
[one on Ebay for $300 has 1 bid]
But I don't wanna get the Poston one if it sucks compared???
Either way soon as the SP is done it will get it changed. hopfuly before the Ebay market get word so I can still get most of my money back.
Plan on using threebond 1104 to seal intake either way as the reason its off as even with a stock intake the steel gaskest don't seal for crap.

For what its worth, I bought, and will be using, a Poston intake for my motor.

I use a lift to install the intake. I make the gasket out of gasket material using a ballpeen hammer. Use black silicone for the end gasket. Dont cost so much.

Maybe that's the way we need to play it. From now on all those who want the new SP1 350 intake will be buying their parts from another vendor to encourage them to hurry up. Its not a punishment but encouragement to show how may folks do really want this item. Then folks can post what all they have bought from another vendor instead of TA, which will give them a great tool to weigh just how important it is to the Buick community.
Again it would not be a punishment or protest thing.
It would be solid proof how important them parts are to us and should encourage them to get on the ball.

I think it will only have the opposite effect. TA will not see much demand for 350 stuff, and decide not to take on the risk.:TH: If TA doesn't, I don't see ANY other Co. doing one. Then you are back to gathering up all the money up front, and trying to do with Micheal G. It won't be cheap, quick, or easy.:CRAP:
If I wanted one I'd buy the SP-1, cut & weld it back, as it would be the least amount of work and you'd have a quality intake. It would still cost a bunch of time mostly in welding, so machining.:GT:

Just call and ask them to send you a SP intake.......... if they say they don't make one...... ask why, and tell them you'll wait then.

dan, aint much work in doing. probably could get it down under 10 hrs.
just maintaining squareness with welding(or j/b it)

But I think closer to 5 hrs is all that it would take with the sp-1. If someone would pay for the welding and supply the intake, I could get er dun. But this is NOT the time of year to be doing that much welding, if you know what I mean.:E:

Over the years I have been told the benefit of the 350 AL intake is weight savings only.
One of those two manifolds, I was told, was merely a stocker made from AL. (relative to performance).
I would be surprised if the intake would provide noticeable difference after headers, ignition, and carb tuning.
Although deals can be had on used pieces.

The stock intake will offer similar performance to the TA. The Poston will just slow you down.

Yep, basically true for the dual plane, however we are talking about a Single Plane design. This design is mainly for racing, and the performance gains are in the upper RPM range, where the dual plane peters out.:COMP:

quick JB works well. Regular is runny stuff for way to long.
Would JB weld really work through for such an app being torqued down and the ammout of vibes it takes? Or you just jbwelding the inside and middle part kinda but the outside where you can will be welded???
Why not perferct your cutting and fitment with some stocker 455 intakes?
Yea they weigh a ton but if you could pull it off on a stocker with that agianst ya, folks would have no problem sending ya a new $350 one to cut up.

Thanks, Kinda wish I had two of them so I could keep one to just look at.
Also nice how little it weighs, the stocker is a pig.
When I first got started I did my stocker intake in super mirror black with a hint of silver flake as the stocker is ugly and it would hide the dirt n nast stock casting markes.
http://viragotech.com/powcoatintake.jpg
But I just couldn't coat the TA one in black, it needs to stand out.
So I went with super mirror yellow.
Goes well with the black n yeller engine theme, V covers n airlceaner is done in super mirror black so the yellow intake between will look nice.
If I could just get the 350-4 air cleaner decal done with a yellow background id be all set to finish off the color theme. [I know red is Buick but I don't dig it.]
Thinking of tossin some prsimatic clear powder over the yeller for a touch of flash when light hits it, dunno yet.

I just wanna shoot myself sometimes, was so careful putting it back together and almost all together and I notice the front rubber gasket had rolled over in the middle. Ends were still down for a bit but right in the middle. rubber still sticks out but man. WTF
