I need some help getting my 73 Century running... it's not getting fuel after putting in a new carb. My question... the fuel line runs from the carb to what I THOUGHT was the fuel pump, right? Well, all the pics I see of replacement pumps look NOTHING like what I have under the hood. What I have looks like a black cylinder... what the stores have looks like some sorta metal small device with an arm on one side... I'll take a pic tonight, but anyone have any ideas of what I'm looking at if it's not the fuel pump?
Again, it's a '73 Century Luxus w/ 350 V8 and 2bbl carb.
Thanks.

was it running ok b4 you replaced the carb? because of age/rust, you could have a rusty fuel line which would suck air instead of gas. check the steel/rubber line all the way back. a/c pump has 3 lines, non a/c has 2 lines.
the small metal device with the arm sticking out is the fuel pump. when replacing it be careful of the mounting and the 2 bolts. you dont want to cross thread them. also start you fuel line on the pump first. save some agravation. then after the pump is done, do the carb.
the 'black device', does it have 2 or 3 hoses on it? if so thats the charcoal cannister, emission item. hoses go to the carb and ??(forgot).
just shut if you got more questions. btw, if you still have the air pump on it, removing it will get you 2-4 tenths in the 1/4 mile.

Turns out the fuel pump is good... put it a brand new (and fully charged) battery and after a few tries, it fired right up. Still need to tune the carb, but least it's alive. Also need to do something about the carb - it's leaking at the connection point for the fuel line (where the fuel filter is). I vaguely remember my friend who was helping me get the car going saying asomethign about stripping the carb body right there and just mounting the line w/o the gasket/o-ring. So I'm gonna go back in there and take a look. Maybe use from gasket maker to stop the leak.
Anyway, thanks for the reply and good to hear the beast running again...

The stripped carb body is a typical boob mistake.
Though you can buy a new filter holder that will cut and make new teeth in the carb body. Any auto store will have it.
Just take in the old one, they will know what ya need.
