I have a 71 and a 72 gs 455 convertibles both have TA cams I have been told. the 71 is mild and I have got an orignal quadrajet that I rebuilt and is one the GS. The 72 is more extream with solid lifters & roller rocker arm set up.It has a big Holly on it.
The question is what is the difference between the 455 Quadrajet and the stage 1 Quadrajet. I know the stage 1 uses AU metering rods on the secondary & 42b on the primary but is there any other differencies in the jetting. Also would the 455 Quad with the stage 1 set up be enough for the 72. I know it is a wild quess with out knowing for sure the cam specifications. Any advice apprieciated.

I have the TA 118 cam in and had the original Dave Johnson build my stage one carb when I worked at TA Performance. It was just metering and some timing on the carb as far as I can remember. Dave really knew his carbs and would compete his Quadrajunk as everyone else called them against the holly and then drive home. Just make sure you have new bushings in the butterflt shafts so that there is no vacuum/air draw leaks.
