Increasing membership and forum activity.

I think someone should change the default view settings so it shows more then just 1 days worth of post. Usually the admin settings are default for non-members.
When you visit the site not logged in it looks like nothing is going on or very much with it set like that. Default view should be a week or even 30 days worth of post.

From the perspective of someone new to the site, looks like not much is going on.
Which doesn’t attract allot of new members.

I don't seem to be finding a setting for unregistered users that view the forums, that dictates how many days of "new" posts have been made.

If you're referring to the "View Today's Posts" link in the quick links menu, then yes, that can be changed.

don't matter if I click todays post at the top or just browse by section the default is just one days post. Which allot of section look blank. The non tech savy or just browser might not know how to change it.

default should be a week or longer so there is more to see by default.

like in phpBB the guest and new users view n other settings are the same as the main admin account ya first use to set up by default till they change em.

There is allot of traffic here, even the odd post get lots of hits / views but very little participation.

I have found the only way to draw folks is in lots of activity. Done that with random mod upgrades with very little real power to active folks. Folks show up more to patrol and post more. More mods the better. First started out with top 10 posters with rank mods upgrades. Jr mod, mod, super mod, now its more of most active but they need to be around for a yr or so and nominated by other mods. Even purposely picking folks I don’t like 100% as we have different opinions. [Actually that’s more likely to get someone mod status as I strive to not be the all seeing power, just another member.]

The forum could be run loser then the club with job positions.

Photo album mod draws allot of folks.
Even more then the attachment mod which we didn’t have for a long while.

Mods also get their own section of the forum.
New folks like being able to ask a question directly to one person.
Ask the mods section

When I log out and check the forums, it is defaulted to one year of viewable threads in every forum. I checked in the admin cp, and each forum is set to default at one year's activity.

Well that's weird...I checked again, and some forums were set to one DAY, and others were set to one year. I'll change them all to "from the beginning"

yea it can do that to ya. to make double sure use a diferent browser to double check things. Its what I do to make sure changes for everyone are working.

like noraml I use crazybrowser for everything [ie shell program] so Ill fire up like old opera to check. I just happen to use opera for this site ;). Even with old 6.01 it works fine.

Don't like fox or mozz, any version.

Opera 6.01 and Netscape 4.76 are the last of the good versions. They both went to hell after that. IE I don't care new or old its the same. But with cookies n junk its best to make sure it not membering your personal settings.

I think you should also turn images on for guest. Let folks see the neat pics and stuff posted here. I doubt bandwith will be a problem. At the VT forum we never had a problem with it and the very few times said offending sites were easily blocked or the owners fixed the problem.

Only searious one we had in last 6-8 month was folks using our avatars on another site. One emial to the site owners and they turned off remote avatars fixing that. Course I did threaten to replace said images with porn if they didn't stop but....

I really think ya should let folks see attached images.
