View Full Version : Dues are Due!!!
Brad Conley
03-05-2008, 02:26 PM
Hey folks. The 2008 dues are now due for the BPG. If your membership expires in 2007 or earlier, you need to pay your dues. You can check your membership status by going to the Membership Roster at:
http://www.buickperformancegroup.com/member_roster.htm
and see when you membership ends. If your membership date is 2008 or later, you need not do anything...you will continue to receive The Buildsheet and you are current in your dues. If, however, your membership year is 2007 or earlier, well, you need to pay.
Dues are as follows:
$35.00 for 1 year.
$65.00 for 2 years.
$90.00 for 3 years.
$500.00 for lifetime.
There are a couple of ways to pay. You can send a check, made payable to The Buick Performance Group and send to this address:
Buick Performance Group
1150 W Fifth St
PO Box 614
Marysville, OH 43040-0614
Or you can pay by Pay-Pal. Our Pay-Pal email address is:
paypal@buickperformancegroup.com
Since paypal takes 3% of whatever is sent to us, it would be nice but not necessary for you to kick in a buck or two for those paypal fees. We all would appreciate it!
If you would, please include your membership number on your check or in the remarks section of the paypal payment. This really helps me out.
Now, when I go to the Membership Roster page, which is current as of 3-4-08, I see many names on there that, well quite frankly, surprise me. This is your club, a non-profit club at that. We need everyone's support to keep a good time rolling for all. We do not mandate that you are a member to enjoy our national event, nor do we hit you with a non-member fee to participate in same, but your club needs the funds to cover the costs (which have gone up this year) for that national event, and payout to the racers a fair winnings.
Please get your dues in soon.
Thank you.

I'll bust my husbands chops about not being paid up :TU:
One thing I'd like to suggest is for the club to include a separate sheet of paper letting us know dues are due in the last buildsheet mailing of the year. It would be really helpful for those of us who forgot or someone like my dad who doesn't get on here to remember to send dues at the end or beginning of each year. I've seen a section in some of the build sheets reminding us about dues but think a separate sheet would be much more effective.........

Joy,
The issue of The Buildsheet that is at the printers now has that page in it. It's not a tear-out, but one of the normal pages you can photocopy or tear out and mail in (or use paypal). The cost of a seperate sheet inserted into The Buildsheet is pretty high, that's the reason we went the way we did.
Thanks!!

Merriam-Websters Definition:
CLUB: an association of persons for some common object usually jointly supported and meeting periodically.
If anyone has been remiss in paying their dues to support their club...here are a few reasons why the club needs your money NOW !
1-In (5) five short months our National event will be comming up...THIS COSTS MONEY...lots of "advance money" !
Very Important that we have all the money needed !
2-Our club has expenses that need to be met and paid for on time...PRINTING, POSTAGE, PHONE BILLS, PROMOTIONAL EXPENSES, ACCOUNTING SERVICES, EVENT APPAREL, WEB SITE COSTS, ETC., ETC., ETC.
3-Non of our Officers or volunteers get paid for doing all the behind the scenes chores that it takes to run this club...(some even foot the bill for certain things and ask nothing in return).
What I'm getting at here is there is a need for your monitary support of your club on a timely basis. Your Membership dues need to come in for the club to move foward and grow. New members need to be recruited by us in order for our club to also move foward and grow.
Wheather you attend your annual club event or not, your dues as a member are needed to make it happen. If you don't come you know you'll look foward to all the great photos that are voluntarily taken by some awesome photographers and then posted on our website.
Show the Officers and volunteers of our fine club how much you appreciate what they do. Show us all how you want to support this club and keep it growing year by year...without your support...there will be no club.
PLEASE send in your membership dues today, it is your resposibility as a member !!! :TU: :TU: :TU:
Thank you !!!

We actually have recruited a member to contact those who mat have forgot and to v=contact those that used to belong but have not paid in a few years....This Club and its events are paid for by the members,,,the Build Sheet,,,the National and local events..we have some small clubs within this group that also step up to provide other entertainment at our events....if you are upping for only one year for $35...throw in another $5 or $10 for ther benifit of the club...it goes in no ones pocket but back to the members....

Sorry, nothing online now. You can send the dues via paypal and just include in the remarks section the information on the registration form. If you are already a member, your membership number (helps me bunches), name and current address is all I need.
Thanks for asking...I think I'm going to put Marco on that project (online registration) next!

Guys, life has thrown me a curve ball. My middle child, Alex, is in the hospital with a collapsed lung. They have tried to get it to re-inflate, which it has once, but it re-collapsed within 12 hours of withdrawing the vacuum on his chest tube. They are trying to get the "bubble" that burst in his lung to heal without surgery and that takes time. They have re-inflated the lung again this afternoon and it is holding with the chest tube/vacuum being applied. They will leave this in place for at least another day, maybe two before removing the vacuum from the chest tube and seeing if the lung will stay inflated. We're praying it does because the next step is surgery.
To answer some of the questions we've been asked a lot: He's 19 and very healthy. Non-smoker (never) but very tall and thin (5'10" and 122 lbs). It seems tall very thin young males have a propensity for this to happen; a "bubble" on the exterior surface pops and causes an air leak, which fills the chest cavity with air and causes the lung to collapse. His has happened on the right lung. No one has been able to tell us why. There is no good reason for this. His bubble burst on Tuesday and we've been in the ER/Hospital ever since.
My first concern is my family. It will now take a little more time for me to process stuff for the BPG office, so please forgive me if I don't get stuff to you right away. I have several processed already that I was just waiting on the latest issue of the Buildsheet, which I have received, so I'll get them out over the weekend.
PS: The hospital at least has WIFI and it does help him pass the time. I'm using their WIFI right now to type this. Ain't technology great???
Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Brad,
this is a shock since I have known Alex for quite a few years and he always seemed in tip top shape.
My heartfelt prayers go out to you, Jodie and Alex. I don't pray to often but tonight I will be on my knees asking God to help Alex along with his recovery.
A have never met a finer young man, all your kids are great, and I will keep you guys in mind as I'm sure the doctors will do all they can to ensure his complete recovery.
With all our love and prayers to your family.

He is in Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville. Doing well tonight...just waiting. As I've learned this week, the medical profession is nothing more that a waiting game. Hurry up and wait. Hurry up and wait. We will know more Monday to see if the lung is holding without surgery. Been a very tiring and trying week for Jodie and I and especially Alex.

I have it David. It's Marching Band season and I'm consumed with that right now. We're also in the process of having someone else take over the office duties, so things are a little mixed up right now. I'll start processing again in November.
Thanks for your understanding.

Hi David,
Please be patient with us, as office manager duties/membership processing is currently being transferred from Brad to Ken Lisk. Ken needs to get up-to-speed on mailing the needed information out. It will take a little-bit of time to sort it all out. Your membership was the example that Brad used when teaching Ken over an internet desktop-sharing connection last Thursday, so rest assured we did receive your information.
Our apologies for the delay. In the meantime, you do have access to all the online build-sheets.
...and THANK YOU Ken for stepping up with the willingness to get involved perform these duties to move the club forward!

Hi Carl-
I have your paypal payment from 2/5. It will be processed into the membership database, along with others, and then the database will be sent to the webmaster to update the website.
On a side note, I have enjoyed seeing your old race car over at Bob Christo's house on a regular basis! :TU:

Sounds great, Ken. How is Bob doing with the car? It was a great car for me. I'm sure that a little more horsepower would have pushed it into the 9's easily.
71GSX455-4Spd
02-12-2012, 05:26 PM
I think Bob won't push the car as hard as you did, Carl. He's hoping to keep his motor together for many, many passes, so he's going a bit easy (only high 10's, lol). I remember the first time I saw that car was one of the early BPG events when we were at Quaker. You were towing it on a trailer into the hotel parking lot. Not many like it, so it's hard to forget! :TU:

You have a good memory, Ken. I went to the very first event at Quaker and had a great time. I believe the car was running low 11's or high 10's at that time. I got it all the way down to 10.30's before I sold it. It was a great car. Sunday drive down the track. Do your burn out, set the transbrake and leave on the last yellow. Those were the days!

David, this page lists the members and their status (what year they are paid through):
Membership Roster (http://www.buickperformancegroup.com/member_roster.htm)
You'll see that member #2313 is in good standing through 2012, meaning your check has been processed and the database which drives the above list and the Build Sheet mailing list has you up to date. That same database is what's used to create the printed out list we use at the Nats to determine if you qualify for the member discount rates or if you want to check your membership status at the gate. So you're good all the way around! :HI:
I do owe you a membership card for your wallet. I admit I'm fighting with an Avery business card template as I try to make batching out cards easier. If Avery defeats me :RE: , I'll print them out one at a time as has been traditionally done. I haven't done battle with the Avery template in a while as the database drives everything and that's been my main focus.
As far as the mechanics of membership processing, I swing by the post office box about once per week to pick up any checks that have been mailed in. Note that Brad is still receiving checks at the Marysville, Ohio PO box and then forwarding them to PO Box 5130, Milford, Ct 06460, so that sometimes causes a time lag. I know your check was sent some time ago as when Brad did an internet training for a few of us BOD at the end of last year, you were the example used for check processing (congratulations!).
I also have direct access to the Paypal account, so I pull down images of those payments and process them through the database along with the checks (checks I scan and keep an image on file). All paypal and check images are kept securely. As I'm a working man with (5) kids this is generally done on a Sunday morning when the house is still asleep.
Once I've processed a batch, I forward the Database to Marco (our Webmaster) to update the above linked list. Yardley and I are in contact and before he prints out mailing labels for The Build Sheet, I do a PO Box and Paypal sweep and make sure no payments are awaiting that won't be included in the mailing list for the newsletter, which is driven off the same database.
So, that's pretty much a thumbnail sketch of how we get you and others into the system. The main thing is getting you into the membership database. From there it's a matter of getting you on the membership roster and always making sure the database is current before a Build Sheet mailing. There was definitely a time lag between Brad showing us how to process at the end of the year and then me getting the hang of it at the same time the annual renewals were coming in. I want to make every attempt to assure that no mistakes are made, so I had some spreadsheets I was manually populating and comparing against the database.
Hopefully, that's not TMI, but I figured others with the same question might benefit from the explanation. We have made a few improvements and have some ideas for additional improvements to further expedite the process. They will get done, but as this is a club run by members, we all are working stiffs with families, so sometimes it takes longer to make improvements than if this were a full-time "business" club. On the other hand, your money goes to fully support club activities. We try to use our collective skill sets to do everything we can internally.
Note I'm not making any excuses here, just letting you and others know how it's handled.
Thanks!

I got a membership reminder card in the mail today. I Paypal'd the money in so I don't forget about it.
I think it was a good idea to send out the reminders. I don't know what list was used to send it out but I'd recommend sending one to everybody that was ever a member just to see if you can get some of the lapsed members back into the fold. I don't think the internet has as big of an influence on the old school Buick guys as much as some people would like to think. If you don't get a hit after a mass mailing this year then you can take the older lapsed members off future reminder mailings.

Yep, I received it. I'm waiting until after Christmas to mail stuff, hoping it stands a better chance of arriving at it's destination then.
Merry Christmas!
Thanks Brad. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Tom,
I checked the membership database and you last paid on 2/1/2011 for three years and show up as a 2013 member. I think Yards was probably just seeing if he could shake a few more bucks out of your wallet! :BEERS:
The cards were made from a list culled from an Access database. I'll ask Yards to check his search to see if anyone else was sent a card that is current.
There is also some sort of statement of "if you've already paid, ignore this card" on there. That's more related to people that paid close to the end of the year that I have not processed yet. Obviously not the case with you, Tom, but I mention it as others may read this thread also. Those should be the only gaps.
Yards is finalizing the next Build Sheet and new cards will be updated and be attached to those mailings.
Thanks!
