View Full Version : 2nd gear slips in new powerglide

Any Ideas what would cause 2nd gear to slip in a new BTE powerglide? I am thinking our trouble was in the linkage but I want to rule out as much as possible. The car is a 1435 lb front engine dragster with an alcohol/nitro injected 425 Nailhead. Shortly after making the shift to 2nd the rpms start to come right up faster than the wheel speed .
Would this possibly be the band adjustments. The fluid is not burnt and shows to be at the right level after 12 passes.
Thanks for any help

First off, I'm by no means a Powerglide expert. I do know that the band(s) shouldn't be applied in 2nd gear. So unless they are adjusted too tight or not releasing, which I would think would be noticed at any RPM/speed, I'd look elsewhere for the problem.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will speak up.

Dwayne thanks for the reply. I will be hooking up a pressure gauge to see what is going on in the different gears. I will post what I find out.
Still looking for possible ideas and similiar past experiences.
Thanks again
