Hey everyone!
just bought my first classic american car (1967 buick skylark 4 door).
I am reasonably handy and everything but I dont have any experience restoring or modifying old cars (just making sure my camry starts and gets me to work is as far as i go).
anyways right now my skylark has a 340 2 barrel in it, but i have recently come across 2 engines for sale with new intake and exhaust manifolds (my exhaust manifold is cracked). one is a 401 nailhead and one is a 430. i just really want to know if i can throw one of these in or do i need to get a new tranny and carb(or anything else)?
buying one of these might be worth it just for the exhaust manifold :)

fill me in!
Jules

You would want to go with the 430 or a 455. The 401 nailhead was discontinued after the 1966 model year. You will need a tranny, motor mounts, carb, driveshaft...etc. You would be better off finding an exhaust manifold. You can post up here and at www.v8buick.com in the parts wanted and see what pops up. I think TA Performance has some used parts for the 340 you can go to their website ( www.taperformance.com ) and check it out.

340 exh manifolds have a tendency to crack. you can have it welded. the alternative like alan said is the 430. if the motor is complete, you will chassis bbb mounts to install. it will bolt up to the 340 trans. the stock mechanical carb linkage should work with the 430. as long as you dont beat on it, you will be ok.

I have also been told that you can swap in a Buick 350 with a turbo 350 fairly easy.
