View Full Version : BCO Class Questions

I know it's too late, but I still have some questions about BCO (for the next time)
Shaker tree'd me first round, so none of this ended up making any difference to me personally.... but I hate not understanding something fully. Maybe it's the engineer in me.

Anyways, my confusion is regarding the breakout rule ... "0.10 both ways"
I've never heard of this. Here's what I think I understand.....

Lets say you dial a 13.50
If you run a 13.61 or slower, you breakout
If you run a 13.39 or faster, you breakout
That much I understand, and it makes sense.

Here's where it gets a little hard for me to get a grip on:

-I heard you can actually lose a "bye run" if you break out either way. Is this true?

-I also heard that if both cars break out (either direction) that they BOTH lose. Is this true?

-I also heard that if you're the fast car and the slow car red lights before you leave, that you can still lose if you break out?

-What if you both red-light? Do you both lose?

If all those answers are "yes"... what happens in the finals when both cars lose? A do-over? :T:

Sorry if this is common knowledge. I've just never heard of this, and I did ask several people, several times, and the answers were always the same. But it seems so wierd to me. I can't imagine a race with no winner. "First or worst" is all I've ever known. I just want to make sure I understand.

Thanks!

Rick

The .10 breakout rule will be gone for next time, this just causes to much confussion as the track could only keep track of the tenth under and couldnt do anything with the over. Next time out this class will be a regular bracket with your index being your best time in qualifing (like this year) and there will be a NO breakout rule. So if you are dialed a 13.50 and run a 13.49, you are out, unless the other guy breaksout by more.
There were some questions about the breakout on the bye runs, that all came from the .10 rule, which will be gone.

I am working on a rule to were there will be NO bye runs for next year, as soon as i can get everything together i will post and we can ALL discuss any changes that need to be made.

I really want to thank everyone that ran in this class, we had 18 cars for first round, and that is the best i have seen since the first time we tried this class in Salem.

Any input or questions, feel free to ask or comment, there is always room for improvement.

Thanks again

Thanks for the reply Denny
I guess it doesn't matter then. I was just curious. :TU:

How the heck do you plan to eliminate bye runs? :WOW:

By the way.... As much fun as this class is.... it's messing up my lights!
I only ran one time trial Sunday .... .00x red
Then I red lit my first round too.... worse. :DOU:
The sad part is... I know I'll run BCO again next year anyways.
It's just too dang fun! :BEERS:

I LOVE the breakout rule!!!!!!

Heh heh. It was funny... I wanted to run BCO, but I got completely hammered Thursday night and wasn't feeling good enough to run time shots for it on Friday. So I was in line for test and tune on Saturday morning when Renee and Denny run over and ask if I'm in BCO. When I told them I didn't get a time shot on Friday they told me I have ONE shot right now if I get in line. So I get in line and pull up to the line. I had NO IDEA it was a pro tree! So I'm waiting for the ambers to count down when all of a sudden every light on the damn tree lights up! I'm freaked and it takes a half second for me to get what the hell's going on. So I kind of stumble off the line and mash the accelerator to the floor. And right then my gas pedal rips right off the floor board! So I'm tearing down the track while holding the linkage to the carpet with the edge of my foot! I had been running between 13.67 and 13.72, depending on the air, and for my only time shot I run a 13.79.

So, I did a major break-out on the first run in BCO by running a .72, but it was under a tenth, so I beat Steve Slater to the finish line. The next 2 runs I was on the brakes going through the traps because I knew I could breakout by more than a tenth and ran right on my number of 13.79 both runs. But because I was running a tenth ahead of what I should have been, I was beating everyone to the finish line. The 4th round I got the bye, and for the finals against Bill Wills I hit the brakes at the top and just squeaked by with exactly a tenth under my dialin! But again, because Bill was only .02 under his number, I got to the line first because we both cut lights that were within .067 of each other.

I apologised to Bill for basically sandbagging him, but it was not intentional.

It sure was FUN!

Yards...I think I should have been invited out as well.....come on.....I am the person that forgot to tell you it was being run on a pro tree after all. Don't worry about sandbagging Bill...we all know he's the king of the Sahara.

At least I feel a little bit better knowing that I lost to the eventual winner :TU:

Note to self for next year's race:
Place block of wood underneath accelerator pedal for all qualifying time shots

With attendance the way it was, you could have kept the same rules and no way would you get 29 cars in this class :CRAP:

I dont agree

I would have raced in it if I had known about it ... and I know at least 3 others that feel the same

I never heard the call - perhaps I was looking at Adam's floorboards from the underside at the time :PUZ:

We used the original rules except for the breakout over and under...other than that...it was the same.

Seems the major problem was that if you were in a certain area, you just couldn't hear the tower, and people just didn't know the rules or if they fit the class (i'm working on that for next year)

I'm wondering if they have a radio station that you could listen to like some other tracks do. That sure would help the "not hearing" problems.

They do have a radio station and I was tuned to it. The only thing that came through was static.:CRAP:

Yes, the PA system there leaves a bit to be desired.
We wanted to park on grass (so it would be cooler, and softer for my boy to play on) so we were way out in the boonies.... but I was sure to park right by a pole with FOUR speakers on it.

I think they had those speakers turned down to "1", and also had about a 2 second delay built into them. Standing at our motorhome, I could actually hear the main speakers from up by the track over the ones right by me, and since there was such a delay between them all I could hear was just a faint jumbled slur of voices every time someone talked. :GT:

2nd pic is of the pole from the top of my motorhome. We were right by it.

Haha, you're supposed to turn your cell phone off so things like that don't happen. But maybe it helped you? :T:

Thanks for posting the video. Even though it's a video of me getting my ass handed to me, it's still neat (and unique!) to see my car from that view.

By the way, I really like the sent Rick packin' blurb in your description... nice touch... twist the knife...ouch... :PANTS:

I saw more "exposed middle fingers" this weekend than I've seen in the last year. Must be how you guys wave to each other over there? :GT:
Next time I make it to the coast. I'll have to give it a try.

Ha !! I've been dialing my mustang friend Brian for YEARS as I pass to the burnout box, put the phone on the passenger seat and take him for a trip down the 1320 with me :WOW::confused4::LAUGH:
