I recall some posts recently indicating our Buick red engine paint was being eliminated, the DH-1608 I believe it was. I ran down to Advance Auto the next day and bought 5 cans at $7 a pop, OUCH.

Is it difficult to find a good color match now? I bought a piece on ebay the other day, a hand made step for my Farmall 130, and the color is (IMO) a very good match for our Buick engines. I didnt ask the guy exactly what paint he used, but he listed it as being "International Harvester red" If you cant find Buick red you may want to look at the IH red.

Try the link above, they still list the Krylon #2114 which has worked well.

Here is the IH red too. Looks the same to me. And yes, I know the top of the can in the link looks green, but the color chip is red.
An FYI at any rate.

All world has 5900 cans at $1.50 per. But you need to buy all the colors to get them. Only 60 grand.

I can buy Krylon's Buick Red for under $4/can, in 6 can cases, been thinking about bringing in a case. ($3.37/can)

Thats what I did. I got a case of Buick red from the local Car Quest auto parts store. They did not have it in stock but had it the same day.

I just pulled the engine out of my Skylark with the intent of repainting it. The paint on the heads near the exhaust ports has been gone for years. In looking around, I've seen Buick engine paint that withstands 300 degrees, which I'm sure is a lot cooler than the heads get. I'm assuming the paint was gone from my heads because it couldn't handle the heat. Is that 300 degree paint only good for certain areas? Do I have to get a higher heat engine paint for the heads?

Thanks

:SMART:I bought this stuff off ebay. It's cheap and it works great! Beautiful shine and hasn't burned off the heads yet (30 minutes running so far). I applied it with a brush, but it can be sprayed on too. Type in "Buick engine paint" in the ebay search box and look for something from "Route 66 Engine Enamels".

Good luck!

Henry, why don't you spray a test piece of the remaining paint you have and bring it to an automotive paint shop? There they can scan the color and put it in anything you want(spray can or pint, quart, gallon or whatever). You would be better off. Krylon is only good for 300 degrees whereas the paint store can offer at least 500 degree paint that is more resilant to fading or burning off. That's what I do whenever I need paint for my GS.
