I'm ready to send a distributor to be HEI converted by Dave Ray for a BBB for my '69 Electra. The engine has been rebuilt with dished .030" over forgings. The heads are '73 models with a regular valve job(small valves,no porting),new springs and rockers. The cam is the TA 112(.455"in-.468"ex lift,210*in-215*ex dur@.050")Compression is a nominal 8.5:1 with stock converter and TH400 and HWY gears. The application is intended to be a long trip cruiser and around town jaunts,no high revving or burnouts for this one.I don't expect to see 3500-4000 RPMs.
Other than the 30-36* of total timing by say 2500RPMs,is there any more specific advice for an optimal timing curve that any of you can share with me so I can relay to Dave.Thanks.

yes, have a vacuum advance of between 8*-12*.

And 20* of mechanical advance built in. Then set the initial timing at 12* or 14*.

Thanks for the replies,I think that I should have been more specific.I'll be using the vac. advance, but what I'm wondering is if I should have the mechanical timing come in under the 2500RPM suggestion since most of the time the engine will be running less than that.I'm wondering if having all the mechanical coming in at about 2100-2300RPMs would be an advantage.

Yes, it really wakes up an engine to have the advance in early. It's easily adjustable by changing springs. Dave will give you the remaining springs from the kit.
