I am close to completing a deal on a 72 GS 455 Convertible. I would like some input on value. This car is completely original as far as #'s matching including carb and distributor, engine, tranny, top etc, she has had a complete frame off restoration and I would say it is one of the nicest restored cars I have ever seen. She has a flawless yellow paint job (original color). I am purchasing her from the second owner of 12 years, complete documentation comes with including original bill of sale and maintenance records etc and about 150 pics of the restoration. She's a low optioned car with only power steering and power brakes. She has always been garaged. Prior to the restoration she had some rust around the rear quarters, trunk and floors looked good. Engine and tranny have not been rebuilt but run and shift as new. She seems like she has had a pampered life and is a very tight driver. Knowing the rarity of this great car what do you think a fair value would be? Thanks for the input and I look forward to interacting here and learning more about Buicks. I have always been a chevy owner so this is new territory. Pete

The market is down some, so I'd say $15 - $20k. Nice looking car. Did you actually read the vin number on the block & trans? Any picts under the hood available?
Hey Mooney, what do you say the value is?
By the way, welcome to the BPG!!!

I thought you were going to share some pix with us, but no problem. Right now on Ebay there are a couple you should check out for comparison. Search under Skylark and Other models, as they don't have a GS category. Some guy posted one on V8Buick.com for $21,000 today. Ebay car is getting much higher bids. Condition, color, options, provenance, etc. tell the story of value for most guys. Sounds like at least $20,000 and more likely higher for the car you show.

Had a good view at the car last nite. VIN # is 4G67U2H206060. Someone early stated to watch out for a 'pretty face'. Well body is great, paint is great, interior is very good, power train seems goods, the under carriage was dirty and grimy, seemed like it wasnt cleaned and sprayed over with paints, bottom engine and tranny were very dirty, I was surprised for a car which had a 'full frame off restoration' that someone wouldnt properly clean the underside. I dont think the engine was removed from the car or the tranny, the rearend is a 10 bolt, thought the GS 455 had a 12 bolt?? Am a little / alot disheartened.. What to do....Any input..?

Well, someone has to tell you... It SHOULD have a 10 bolt rear if it is original (except the Canadian models & some lucky others from the Framingham plant I believe). Sounds to me all you really need to do is clean up the bottom (if you chose), why so down???:confused4:

The car is a 'Canadaian' so should it have a 12 bolt?

But if it were sold in the US, then made its way across the border, it would be a 10. You can find EVERY option on the car stated from the Canadian gov I am told, but I don't recall if there is a charge for it...:SMART:

That may be true, but the car was built in the US (the "H" in the VIN stands for Flint build), so a 12 bolt is not possible.

They stopped building GS's in Canada in 1969.
