Here is a pic of the 71 Skylark convertible we just got for Beth. The car is clean with only 40 K original miles. We are picking it up this Saturday.

and another pic. The volcanos will be coming off and 14" chrome wheels will be added. The car still had the original spare and top boot bag in the trunk.

Nice Car
What is the story here, and why is it in a Car Dealer Showroom?
Did a little old lady trade her pride and joy in on a new Buick?:PUZ:

A guy I work with saw the picture in the paper last friday and told me about it. Supposedly a local gentleman had the car for 25 years and turned it in just before the summer because he needed to buy a new Chevy truck for his business.

The Chevy Dealer had it in their "used car" showroom thru the summer and kept reducing the price. I called a local Buick guy, got the scoop on the car, and decided to take a ride. I checked the car out pretty good, you should have seen the looks I was getting from the salesmen while I went over it.................priceless................... then I took it for a ride and everything seemed real tight.

Beth wanted a red convertble A-body and didn't really care which brand it was so long as she liked the lines. That's why I originally picked up a 70 Chevelle conv for her but this car was all together, so I took her up to see the car, she liked it, took it out for a ride and the rest is history.

We wanted a nice clean driver to take out on weekends and enjoy, and this fit the bill nicely. I will clean up a few things, semi-detail it under the hood and let her have fun.

I will still put the Chevelle together, but now the pressure is off. When it's done she can choose which one she wants and the other will go up for sale. Either way I can't loose.

Any under the hood pictures, A/C or non?

Dan,
No pics of the underhood, it has not been detailed at all. That is a project for next spring. The car has aftermarket AC installed and everything looks intact. I offered to take it out but she wants to keep it.

OK,
We got a little more of the story when we picked it up today. It appears the guy that owned it for 25 years lived on Marco Island along the west coast of Florida, and he used it as his pleasure car. One of his friends bought it, brought it to PA, kept it for 5 years or so, and was the guy that traded it in.

So I guess I know why it's in such good shape now.

He:LAUGH:He:LAUGH:He:LAUGH:Heeeeeee....

How long do you think it will take him to find those Rallye's ?
I'd say, with his connections, about a week....and I'll bet they'll be:

1-Four NOS (in the GM wrappings) 1971 Rallye Rims
2-Proper size for 1971
3-Correct date Code for 1971
4-Four correct NOS (in the box) Centercaps for 1971
5-Twenty as NEW 1971 lug nuts (that he had in a box in the garage, since 1979)

Would Duane do it any other way? :RE: :DOU: :WOW:

No, go with the 71 SS wheels...

Duane Heckman
10-05-2009, 11:08 PM
Actually I picked up a set of six 69-70 14" chrome rallys from Nick just minutes before I picked up the car. The tires are brand new so I figured I would put the whitewalls on the 14" rallys instead of going with the 15" rims, but if the tires were bad............................

Dan,
I didn't even think about the 71 SS wheels, they would look sharp on that car. I gave a set to Richie years ago and could probably get them back...........hmmmm
