Looking for some experience with Nitrous so we can decide how to proceed. Our 464 is pretty mild and now used for strip use only. We will be finishing the rear suspension this winter, and we have built the car and fuel system to feed a lot more horsepower than we have, so we think Nitrous could be a nice filler until we build something else.
Engine is 464, forged 10.25 piston. Edelbrock aluminum with SPX. Currently Proform 950, but will be going to 1050 over winter.
Dyno'd just over 500hp.
Question is, how much nitrous and how is best way to set it up? Any help and advice would be great.
Thanks.

not the expert here.. But what rods and how much spray are you going with? I have a thread here somewhere and there were some good points made. I will try to look it up. Probably in the race section?

I have read through several threads here and other sites.
Probably looking at 150 to 200 shot max for this engine for now. Hopefully put this combo in low 10's high 9's. We will be building another BBB with a girdle and stronger bottom end for more strength by end of next season.

I see a bunch of Buick guys running the plate "sideways" as well. The plenum is pretty big and goofy compared to a chevy.

Used it since 1980. Don't run more than 150 HP unless your using good head gaskets, even then start thinking of good rods etc. for more HP, and make sure you have lots of fuel pressure with it on, mount a guage if you don't have one. You can run it from the lights through the traps, I used it with the trans brake on. I ran a 1.58 60' without boost then went to a 1.28 60' and blew the head gasket with a 300 shot, big wheelie too. Another thing to consider is you may need less gear with the N2O, as I topped out way before the end of the 1/4- like 300 feet before and still turned the same et I did without the N2O as I slowed down to 90mph through the traps. What rpm are you getting through the traps now?

Thanks Larry.
We got the Nitrous Express set up with 15# bottle and will start with 100hp jets.
Most tracks around here are 1/8th mile. We have 4.10 gear. In quarter mile, going through traps at 5500. We are going to go to 3.73 gears if we race 1/4 mile.

Have fun with that, but beware the temptation-it's hard to resist-I am going natural asperated for next year. Don't like pulling things apart.

I am hitting about 55-5800 rpm on a 350 motor and a 125 shot. I run 373 gears with a 28 in tall tire. I am usually at 5000 on the motor at the end of the quarter without nitrous. Run colder plugs and keep the timing down. I have been running NGK plugs instead of the stock ones. The bottle pressure seems to be best at 950-1000 lbs. If you add a bottle heater don't rely on the thermostat that is built in to the heater. Not very accurate.
