Being a noob here, I hope not to be flamed for this. I, like most new owners of anything automotive, am enthusiastically in search of parts and accessories to improve my machine. So naturally I turned to the For Sale forum here. I do a specific search for some items, and lo and behold, a listing of items for sale pops up. GREAT! click and read, and read, going thru the posts for a couple of minutes only to find out that the item is SOLD. Damn. Click on the next thread, which now I have learned are sometimes from 2 or 3 YEARS ago. SOLD again. Over and over with the same result.
Is there a way to delete the posts that end up with the item sold? After all, that is the idea, to sell surplus stuff. Does it need to remain as a historical roadmap to who was interested and how much shipping was to East BF?
To me, that whole section is of little value if the post is more than about a month old. I say let's have a more current listing of items still actually for sale. As it is now, it is dysfunctional for me. Just a thought.

Yup, Sale ads are a real PITA. But as soon as they start disappearing you will hear complaints from the crowd that think they need to look back at 2 years worth of sales to see what prices are/were.

All are good points. I try to delete after a while, but I keep them there after the sale until a reasonable time for complaints has passed. Hey it could be worse, I know of one Buick site where they whine and complain about who's on first, pics, shipping, condition, etc, etc and it takes 15 posts and a whole month for anyone to sell anything. I know a few folks who wont list anything there because of all the whiners. I hope that wont happen here.
The best way to get an up to date idea of what's out there is to run a wanted ad.
I like to sell here because although there may be less traffic there's also no bellyaching, and stuff either sells immediately or it doesnt. Gawd let's not make ebay the only place where a sale can actually occur.

I started this thread a month ago. A couple of replies later, I dont know if it means no one else cares, or no one is all that concerned to change the status quo. Maybe it's just that no one wants to wade through ads that no longer apply.
Is it true, as the title of this forum states: WE ARE LISTENING. ?? Can something be done to remove threads that have become outdated or sold? I think this is a chance to make this BPG site better and more user-friendly. It would be nice to see some response or change, either way.

I imagine the BOD will need to put their heads together and decide if any action is really needed. :TH: You'll probably need to be patient though, I doubt this is high on the agenda list.

I know on the V8 board that threads are taken down after about a year....some stuff does not sell in a month or 2 mos or 6mos...so setting a 1 mos time limit is not fair....and to be honest with you I do not have time to go through and delete old posts...when you search for something and select the thread you can always use the last page button and see if it was sold...sorry but not a high priority....but I will post a link in the BOD's section

On V8 we do not intentionally remove old ads. There was one incident a year or so ago when there was a database crash that resulted in the loss of almost all existing ads. To my knowledge, that's the only time that has happened. I don't think the majority of members are real concerned about old ads hanging around, regardless of being sold or not.

Odd, I've never heard of this. You're sure it wasn't in the V8 Classifieds section? I know those do expire.

Just looked at the oldest ads, and they are there all the way back to mid Dec 2008, which was when the database issues wiped out all the existing ads.

Well, maybe we could have a Sale Pending section. So once a the deal is struck, the seller could hit a sale pending button, which automatically moves the thread to a sale pending location. Later if the sale fall thru, the seller could hit a back for sale button, which moves the thread back to the parts for sale.
Of course it would all be up to the seller to keep it up to date (which isn't bad), but I have no idea how to do the programming. Adam..... No wait a second, Marco!!!:BROW:

A 'For Sale' forum is like any other forum - Nothing expires.
We've had discussions on the V8 board about this, and the general consensus was to leave it because it contains a historical representation about a part/car.
I do not agree with 'hawking' the for-sale forum looking for things to delete or lock.

I'm with Marco on this one.
