Hi everyone,

Just out of curiosity, what exactly is involved with a cam swap on a 1970 455? Can the motor stay in the car? Do the heads have to come off? I've only done bolt-ons myself (headers, intake) and haven't taken the motor apart. I had it out of the car last year and if I find out that the cam can't be replaced unless the engine is on a stand then that will end this fantasy real quick and I'll probably kick myself for not wanting to do it then. Thanks!

You will need to remove the intake to get to the lifters. Then just the valve covers need to come off to remove the rockers and get the pushrods out. You'll need to remove basically the entire front of the engine as well as the radiator. And it's best to get the expensive grill out of the way too. Don't want to damage that.

It's not a huge deal, but definitely a full day's work.

Thanks Phil.

I'm just tossing around ideas. I shouldn't be getting these thoughts in the spring at the start of driving season but it's partly due to having an old unheated garage and living in Chicago that limits my enthusiasm for off-season tinkering. At least I don't have to pull the engine....
