I am posting the Judging rules for the BPG Nationals for those that are interested. The Car Show Classes along with a description of what constitutes a "Modification" are at the end of the rules.

Only one exception to Duane's post...We are NOT requiring, at this time, that you must be a current member of the BPG to show your car or to judge. However, this may OR may not become a requirement in the future.

Any questions...fire away.

Cars in concours must be pre-registered? Good idea, where and how? All the registration requires at this time is to purchase ticket for show/driver.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I should have included that you do not have to be pre-registered in my comments above. We just want you to come!!:YA:

It would be nice, however, if you did send in your registration form beforehand so we had some kind of count. Just mark "Concours" anywhere on the form. If you've already registered, no problem. We'll figure it out on show day.

Thanks!

First - Thank you all who have spent their time and effort in organizing what will be a wonderful event - it is greatly appreciated.

I would like to petition the Ruling/Judging committee - If it is not too late.

I have voiced this opinion before, both on this site - as well as spoken to anyone willing to listen about it for the past 11 years.....

....So here we go, again

I DO NOT think that the addition of Guages to our performance-oriented cars, for our Performance-Oriented Club, should count as a Modification.

As we all know all to well, these mighty motors of ours, with alittle bit of tweaking, are capable of making some serious power - as well as throwing off some serious amounts of heat. They also have some Serious Oiling issues. All of these need monitoring for our engines to live a long, healthy life.

Alot of us drive our cars. Alot of us drive our cars ALOT. Some of us are even going to drive our cars to the event to SHOW their cars - hundreds or even thousands of miles. . Some that do drive to the event to Show their cars will even race. A few brave souls will even race them ALOT. All of us hope to get home again.

Correct me If I am wrong, But I believe Buick did not install Oil, Temp, or Volt GUAGES in A-Bodies until 1970 - and then it was an option. Likewise, Tachometers were sporatically offered and sometimes not available at all.

That leaves ALOT of us without any way to monitor Vital Engine and systems conditions ....

....unless we have installed aftermarket guages.

If you must - deduct points for non-original dash equipment, but I feel (and I think Many would agree) that driving - and more so racing - a car requires this basic information. The fact that BUICK left GUAGES off of our cars (or in the case of my '69 GS, were NEVER even available as an option) is a mistake I should not be paying for in a show 36 years later.

I believe the intent of the 4 modification rule is genuine and serves our Performance-Oriented community well - the three basic performance mods that readily come to mind being 1) Intake, 2) Carb, 3) Exhaust leaving 4) for Rear change, Electric fuel pump, Suspension Mod.....etc. Guages should not even be a consideration.

I would like to qualify the above with a statement like "Guages will be overlooked IF tastefully done" but that leaves too much to individual interpretation as to what is tasteful, so lets not go there
-----------------------------------------

Is the "Black-Top" battery requirement also classified as a Modification ?? Im not sure I understand this rule if it is. Surely It is not expected to have a factory-correct battery after 30+ years, and it is not required to have a "Stock appearing" battery.....but it must have a black top ??

It will only take me about 2 minutes to spray paint my Red-Top Optima with some "Delco-Remy Black" and make it a black-top - would this now not count as a modification ??

Thank you for your time and consideration......Im very excited about once again participating in a BUICK CLUB EVENT !!!

Thanks for the replies and considerations....

....plan on me bringing this up again .... with time to spare for next year. Its one thing I'm very adamant about.

While I have your ear, I had also suggested that the Display card for show cars have a space available on it where a person who had raced their car could affix the time slip to the Display Card.

thoughts ??

Alan,

I *think* there will be room on the card...they either are at the printer or have already been printed. Again, a note for next year if there is not room this year. I do know there is not a specific area for the time slip. Again, we were trying for uniformity between the 3 clubs, with some of our own tweeks. If not this year, then for sure next year. OK?

Brad, will there be a display only class for those not interested in being judged? My car is far from a show car, but it looks pretty good for a regular driver. I assume you need to register for a display only class just as you would for a judged class? Same fee as well?

Thanks

Paul,
I can answer part of this one. If you want to display your car and not have it judged then you get a Blue window sticker, That way you get to put the car in the same class, with it's brothers, but not have it judged.
This year all classes except the Concours/Restored class will be popular vote so you don't have to worry about judging.

As far as the fee, I can't help you there.

Duane or Brad,
My 70 GSX 4 spd has:
Stage 2 iron heads
original B4B that was with the stg 2 opt
850 holley-------------------------- stg 2 opt
open element air cleaner (" BUICK) on lid)
K B valve covers(may be part of package)
Ta stg 2 header ( I have the orig but poor!)
3'' exhaust system with tail pipes
Would I still be stock class for judging? The stg 2 package was over counter Buick the same as outside mirrors, engine block heater, trk mat, trailor hitch , compass, etc ,etc.
Thanks
Bill

Paul,
That's why we have the "display" only cars, so nobody feels left out.

Bill,
Your GSX would not have been delivered from the factory with the Stage 2 components. From what I understand the heads were not available "over the counter" until 1972. This would add up to too many mods, so the car would be placed in the modified class.

However, this does bring up an interesting point, if one of the 5 "Documented" 1970 Stage 2 cars was shown in the Concours/Restored class then it should have headers, B4B, etc. speed parts, because that was the way it was built back then. The same could be said for the 69 Motion Car, owned by Jim Hawthorne, and possibly one other car that still needs documentation. These cars would be judged like Yenkos, or Shelbys, and would not receive deductions, but if incorrect speed parts were also added, they would be deductions.
Hope this answered your question.

Thanks Paul, ??????????? Why are not having you car judged? There is a class for your car and your shows great!!! I wish I had the paint on my car you have on yours. I would rethink this one, remember this the BPG not that brand "X" club!!! One way or the other I'm glad your bringing that shiny machine to Salem. :TU: AL.

Cool. Just wondered if it was going to be posted somewhere. The next newsletter is going to be a collector item for sure. I know it will be worth waiting for.
