headers 350

Looking to fab my own headers for 71 skylark 350. What headers should i buy to cut up? I will be making my own flanges and would like to do little cutting on new headers to make them fit. Does anyone have suggestions on what lines up with exhaust ports?

TA Performance sells complete headers (see http://www.taperformance.com/products.asp?cat=385 ). They also see flange kits (see: http://www.taperformance.com/products.asp?cat=390 ). They are great people to deal with, just call them.

Go with a set of SBC headers for a chevelle if you really want to build headers.... I would just perfer to buy TA headers but if you are up to a lot of work then go for it.

Thanks guys, im trying to keep this project cheap, I race the 71 buick skylark on ice and theres no point in spending $400 on the headers from ta. I figured that the sbb community would have tried this at somepoint.

headers for the 350 depends on your engine mods. nothing to mild, stock manifolds with porting by gessler. 1 5/8" tubes are about the same. more mods require 1 3/4" tubes. if your going to go further 2" really are required. but nobody makes 2" for a buick 350. sbc headers are close. but the flange ports are too small. you will have to make your own.

Thanks for the info. I plan on using a ta 112-350 cam, ta 1405 lifters, ta intake, and a 2 bbl carb. Local race shop is going to build the carb for me. I need the motor to make power down low to get off the corner. Track is about 1/2 mile long and your always searching for traction so a high rpm motor will get you know were fast. for what your doing, you may want to try the stock manifolds before you make the headers with the cam selected. kind of hard to think backwards for what your doing.

If you want to keep your power & torque low in the rpm band you need a more restrictive exhaust, therefore stick with the stock manifolds. Headers only help at higher rpm.
