350 single turbo project - 72 Skylark

I sold the nitrous kit and a few other things to free up some cash, so

I took the dive today and ordered my turbo and oil line kit.

I am going to have to fabricate a mounting bracket somehow/somewhere then I can start mocking it up and ordering the remaining pieces of the puzzle.

This should be fun.....

Hope to have it ready for the Buick events spring/summer.

I got the turbo in today and it is bigger that I thought. I will have to make a bracket to mount it in position. Right now I am thinking I will make a bracket that mounts behind the alternator bracket and puts the turbo somewhere on the passenger side.

you going to torture that 350 to death. looks like you will have to add 2' to the right side of the car just to get it under the hood.

Well in that case I guess I will scrap the project and get an aluminum 455.....not.

I dunno about that... They seemed to handle 1021 HP and ran a 8 second quarter with no girdle. With a girdle I see no reason we can not make 1200 HP reliably.

I could buy 20 Buick 350s complete for what the Tomahawk block costs....

I got the 350 back into the 72, coupled with a built TH350 I had laying around.

Happier I could not be to get it back where it belongs.

Up and running albeit without downpipes and exhaust at this time.

This weekend maybe Ill have time to take a look at where to fit the turbo.

I have a feeling that turbo would look awsome sticking through your hood on the passenger side

actually Ive thought a little about something unconventional like that hood thing. its fun to be "different".

I even talked about the exhaust exiting the hood like a stack. I dont know how it will end up. I kinda like the idea of a HUGE chrome sidepipe.

what oiling set up are u gonna use. How built is your 350... trans.....just curious, ive been a transmission builder for a number of years now..

Ive got a hi vol oil pump with adjustable regulator, and enlarged passages in the block. I will tee off the pressure port for the oil feed and the return will go to the oil pan, passenger side.

The trans is full b&M kit, 2500 stall B&M t/c

I think the 350 will be a temporary thing. I have a S/P 400 I think I am going to use once the turbo is installed and working.

Looking at the setup today. MAN that turbo is heavy.

Its doable in the engine compartment. Best location looks to be off a bracket mounted bahind the alt bracket and on the pass side of the pass head.

HOWEVER

I had another idea that I kinda like.

Trunk mounted turbo would simplify things a lot. Plenty of room, simplifies the exhaust layout, and only one tube (pressure air) going forward into the engine compartment.

Any thoughts? I have a feeling the trunk mount might be a little more "laggy"
