Killed enough engines from oil starvation, then solved that with a Peterson Vac/Oil pump and multiple oil feed lines, along with a 2 quart accu sump/pre oiler, using a K&N #5001 filter, along with a custom pan. The oil system came complete by Steve Reynolds (many thanks again Steve). After all that I then end up breaking a friggin lifter bore! Even with the lifter bore girdle! I later found out afterwards that every few runs you should inspect it as the bolts can lossen up on the lifter bore girdle. So pitched that and used epoxy steel filled the lifter bore area and once done the block sat for over a month before any drilling or machine work and problem seems to be solved. Along with the exoxy we added an additional external oil line, feeding from thru the front of the engine by the intake rail into the lifter area feeding into a small aluminum block that splits into 3 seperate lines which each are tapped straight down to the mains for added oiling. I did not do this work, but got the idea from a post by Dave Mongeon's oil mods.

I am building a 505cid motor for a 71 Buick Riviera to be raced at Bonneville.

Moldex 4.250" stroke billet crank
TA stage 2 TE w/2.260" intake 1.755" exhaust
A special intake manifold
Eagle 6.800" H beam rod w/L19 bolts
Calico main and rod bearings (3/4 groove main)

Sorry guys I've been away from this site for a while. First off the lifter bore is broke on #4 cylinder. There are dents in the pan around there as well. The owner was going to take the head off this weekend and I just got off the phone with him and he said he had not done that yet, so I waiting for news on that job. The Fram filter was just for all the break in oil changes. No need for high dollar oil filter for break in. The #4 intake valve is definatly bent, both pushrods were broke, lifter bore girdle pads were broke. That looks to be the main damage or at least were it started. We are trying to make up our mind on what to do next. We need make a decision here pretty quick so the owner (Bill) is going to meet with Mike from T/A in a couple of weeks and discuse the new aluminum block and what parts will be avalible. We also talked to Kenny Duttweiler about a twin turbo V-6 deal that would put us over the top but the price is pretty high and I don't think we will have enough money to do that. I also need to know what experience any of you guys have with ProChargers? The reason I ask is we need at least 1200 hp to go fast enough to set a record in a blown class. (204MPH)

We are running a Winters Quick Change rear end with 2.64 gear but we also have a GearVender overdrive that puts our final drive ratio around 2.06. The trans is a turbo 400 with a 2.75 first gear set.

We had a lot of oil mods as you can see from the pictures, NO oil pressure problems this go around but with all that said it is getting a dry sump oiling system this next go around. Just imagine a 5 mile drag race, that is what we are doing.

My Two cents. I would go Turbocharged. I would go with two 55mm Turbos or a Big Single like 101mm 106mm or a 114mm. You do not have to change Pulleys to Make more Boost or a Belt that can Slip or Brake or Pulling on the Crank like the Prochargers do. EFI is the way to go. But you could start out with a Blow-thru Setup First

I think all the specs are already on this board but I will give you a quick update.

505cid, T/A stage 2 heads, Moldex 4.250" stroke billet crankshaft, Crower 6.800" rods, KB forged pistons 4.350", T/A block girdle, T/A lifter bore girdle, Scavenger oiling system, 1050 cfm carb from Carb Shop, Intake SPECIAL!, Mallory Ignition, T&D Rockers 5/8" shaft, Erson roller cam .731" lift. 697hp @ 6700rpm.

Car = 1971 Buick Riviera, lowered to 2" frame to ground, air dam that is made to class specs, 3.08 Winters Quick Change rear end, 2.64 rear end ratio, 3 link suspention w/j bar (NASCAR), Bilstein shocks on all four corners, tubular upper A-arms, complete roll cage, two 10 pound fire bottles. With the driver the car weighs in around 4200lbs.

The car is setup to run at Bonneville but we also want to compete at the Silver State Classic as well. The Classic is a set up on a Nevada Highway that is 90 miles long and you can go as fast as you want. We would like to go in the unlimited class and maybe go for the record witch is set at 204mph average. We have a ways to go but that is our goal.
