4l80e in Buick

Has anyone else besides my brother put a 4l80 or 4l85e in their ride yet? He dropped his into the 70 riv nice as pie. Shortened the driveline 4 inches and built a cross member. He made his own stand alone module with cadillac smooth shift to race shift and paddle type shift. I found one for mine and am going to look for a few more.

How'd he make his own module? That seems to be the i$$ue keeping most folks from doing this swap.

There are aftermarket controllers, are there not?? I know on my 07 Sierra the TCM is now separate from the ECM so a tranny transplant into old cars including the computer is easy but it uses lots of inputs the old cars don't have to help it decide what to do.

The separate TCM is getting ready for the 6 speed auto which has all internal electronics That will be the one to get once somebody gets an aftermarket controller (first gear is a stump pulling 4.03!).

The Compushift is in my eyes the best controller on the market, the package comes with a TPS set-up that works with a carb. I was the first to install a 4L80E with a Compushift in Canada in 2001 and I swear by this controller. Go on there web site and check out what the contoller is capable of, the owners name is Mike and he will give support when ever needed. Chris
