Oh yes plz, more afordable upgrades are awesome.
You'll get a big cookie for that one.
We looked into doing this John. You as a machinist might make it work but anyone having to pay for the mods to the shafts and the heads makes it cost restrictive. Not worth the effort but that's just my opinion.
If you look at the way they mount compared to our heads you will understand.

yeah, i been kind of shy to cut up a head to see what it looks like. but will ponder it with my ''x-ray'' vision.there is always a way to do something.
ever see the setup they make for the amc motors? they cut the towers and build a flume for the new chevy style shaft rockers. getting them in the right spot is key. also old sbm rockers can work with minor machining. again putting them in the right spot is key.

Just amazes me that they can make a shaft mount roller rocker for SBC for $235 a set and the same basic thing for a Buick is 3X that amount.

Being a machinist owning and running CNC equipment, it still goes back to why the difference in cost. THe shaft mount SBC rockers, although different are not that much different when it comes to machining them . If I program my equipment to run 1000 of SBC rockers it won't cost that much more machine time to run 100. Not the type of cost difference we see in a set of SBC rockers vs. a BBB rocker. THe only major difference is in the amount of material. Volume does play a part in it, but I still believe most rocker mfg's are taking us to the cleaners.

I wholeheartedly agree with Steve. The pricing on the rollers keeps me from buying a set. I have to horsetrade,swap,and save a while to be able to buy a set of $600 dollar roller rockers. I am at the point that if my 462 goes south,I will jump on the SBC boat. For the money I spend on Buick parts, I can have a heck of a SBC 383 stroker motor...And I can get a heck of a set of rollers for 1/3 the price of Buicks.

dont know the answer on costs difference between sbc and sbb and sbm. sbb and sbm both are shaft rockers and both are pricey thru t&d. cheaper sbm are found on ebay. i have contacted a couple of cheap ebay companies in regards to making sbb rockers. falling on deaf ears is what i get.
regards to the t&d info, correct ratio/location is important. our engine goes 7500rpm thru the traps and we run 1.65 rockers. dont think many can/do that.
since it was brought up;
in regards to mark's sbc set up. has any one tried it out yet. (i am not condemning his work or ideas, i think its great) but we have 8k in our motor and i do use it as a test dummy to prove out things i build. (hitting the wall does not count). but you got to test it to prove it works so the next guy has no worries. thats the important step to all this.
anybody can call me about any of the things i do or did and i do post it on the 'our little 350' thread here.

For under $400 you could have roller rockers. Don't the sbc Jesel rockers just bolt into the stud location?? Being the spacing is the same or close, I would thing you could just buy the plate, shift the holes slightly, and bolt down a high dollar shaft setup. Bobb is suppose to be working on a stud girdle to work with the standard sbc rockers. In my opinion that should work for 98% of the Buick guys out there.

I know Bobb Makley has installed a set on Anthony's heads and run some bench tests for alignment, delfection and was impressed with the performance of the setup.
