im rebuilding 2 455 motors, a 1971 and a 1972. im using edelbrock buick performance heads, but what about pistons. has anyone used arias pistons? how bout Ross Dished pistons. i want 11:1 compression but would settle for less.

Both are excellent pistons. Definitely get the lighter of the two. If they're both .030, then most likely, the rings are standard Buick 5/32". They'll work fine, but the .038 piston (wiseco, je srp) use thinner 1/16" rings. Check the pin height before you buy. I have seen some Ross with a 2.02 pin height to minimize the amount of deck surfacing to get a true compression ratio. Most 455 pistons are .040-.070 below deck at TDC, giving lower than advertised compression ratio. The standard Buick pin height is 1.98(.040 higher in the piston). If you get the 2.02 piston, you must be cautious when decking to make sure your pistons are not sticking out of the block due to miscalculations. Aside from that, both are good quality pistons.
