Ballast resistors

im not getting an voltage at the coil. i need to get the car running to run new fuel through the system and adjust the carb. do the 455 buicks in 72 have ballast resistors in line, on the coil. or did they use resistant wire, or what? This has a HEI distributor with coil in cap. thanks for the help!

The stock 72 Buicks with points used a resistance wire inline with the + side of the coil. Whoever converted the ignition over to HEI, should have eliminated or bypassed the resistance wire. The HEI requires full time battery voltage. There are various ways to do that. If you are not getting any voltage at the BAT terminal of the distributor, trace the wiring back to see where the problem is.

i ran a temporary wire directly from the battery to the coil, and it started right up. so aparently i just run the wire through my switch, ( i have push button start) and when i flip the switch and push the button, it runs. thanks for the help.
