Buying a Trailer

Didn't really know where to post this. I put it in the Choo Choo section on the v8 board but I know that some of our members don't go over there.

I'm ready to buy a trailer New or Used.....(got my stimulus check)
Looking for a 24-28 ft enclosed with 5200# axles
Anybody got a brand they would recommend?
Anybody got a brand I need to run away from?
Anybody got a dealer I need to call?
Anybody have one for sale?
Would prefer someting east of the Mississippi.
But will travel further if the deal is right.
What about all these trailers on Ebay out of Georgia are they any count.

Like I said he was great to deal with. He even came in on a Sunday morning because we had to be back in NY with the trailer by the next morning. The only thing I didn't like was that GA dosn't have temporary plates & we drove all the way home with no plates on the trailer. I would have bought my old plate with me or borrowed a dealer plate had I known but we made it home without a problem.

Make sure and paint or change the trailer in some fashion where it can be ID'ed from 100+ yards away.

Why trailers are so easy to steal, either all white or black and once on the road cops have a hard time finding it as there are 100s of ones just like it on the road ever day.

Daily around here someone steals a white contractors trailer and its never seen again. They blend right in with the rest of traffic and its gone.

John, With your trailer being 32' I take it that it is a tag along not a 5th wheel goose neck setup. Do you have any opinions on the differences? And how does the 32 pull. I have 2006 Dodge 1 ton single rear wheel Cummins powered 4x4 MegaCab as my tow vehicle.

Yes mine is a tag. It is a triple axle which balances the load evenly & it tows like a dream. It sways less than my old 26 but I guess it is because it weighs that much more. 5th wheels are the best but none of my friends have a 5th wheel truck and I was afraid if my truck were to breakdown how would I move the trailer? That was the only reason. I have a 2000 Ford F350 Diesel crewcab dually and I get about 8-9 mpg as long as I keep it at 2000rpm or 66mph. Anything faster and the mileage drops.
How much stuff are you going to carry? If I were to do this again I would get by with a 28' tag. The more room you have means you bring more stuff and then everyone asks you to carry stuff for them. Less room less stuff! If you know what I mean.

I will be mostly hauling my 70 Skylark to the drag strip. The biggest vehicle I'll haul is our 1972 GMC pickup it weighs in at 5300lbs and 19' long. I would like to bring my golf cart along to some of the events so I guess the 24' is out. I have a line on a used 28' Haulmark Elite II that is loaded and has the tandem 6000# axles. Thanks for your feedback.

I had a 26' Haulmark that was nice but was alittle heavy but that was due to the Home Depot cabinets I pit in. held its value well. Sold it 10 years later for almost the smae price that I bought it for!.
You will be fine with the 28'. Make sure you get a deal because new ones from KC Trailer are killer in price.

Make sure you have enough height clearance to get the truck in the door.

My Haulmark is 28' and I can get the golf cart and the Riv (including wheelie bars) in with about 1' to spare. Heavy axles and larger tires are best way to travel.
