Hi guys, I just joined up and its a pleasure to be here among Buick guys like myself. I am knee deep in a major overhaul of my 66 wildcat gs 425 at the moment.

I have a few questions if anyone can help me out.
1. is a nylon cam sprocket any good? I'm having trouble finding anything else.
2. when it comes to porting and polishing the heads: I have heard that air molecules travel better over a surface that is actually in a cross-hatch pattern rather than smooth? I wouldn't pay any attention to this other than the fact that a guy who owns a vette custom shop told me this.
3. when replacing a cam, is it necessary to replace the distributor as well?

I actually did use the search tool. was I mistaken? an explanation in great response seemed to elude me on every point that I looked for. there seems to be a great wealth of knowledge on this forum, and it hardly seems to be user friendly if my in depth searched harvested nothing. I am not going to spend the time to read every word written by every member. That is the point of forums, friend. As far as an instantaneous response, since you choose that as the focal point of attacking my unrest, it has been three days and I have not recieved response one. Insofar as searches go, nylon cams on a small block is a recent technology and the one I got is actually discontinued.

Air flow rate over rough/polished surfaces were never discussed involving a nailhead or anything else on this page sir. SO next time you decide to retaliate against a valid revolt on an obviously usless page why don't YOU take the time to check the search button and find what is actually covered on your home forum?

I find it interesting that you decided to pack it in upon not receiving a instant response. As much as one would like to have such a thing happen, it's usually not in the stars. But then, neither is your membership on this site. Actually we are pretty lucky, if you catch the drift. Adios and watch out for the door! Jim

I am sorry I missed your posting; I usually check this site at least a couple times a day for new posts.
1) nylon no good, find a replacement timing set. TA performance or Carmen Faso has new ones all steel. Carmen is @ 716-693-4090

2) I had some heads extrude honed; when a very knowlegable buick guy saw them he kindof shook his head... he thought the smooth surface may not help. Need some laminar flow disruption to keep the gas in suspension? No data, especially on a nailhead.

3) Distibutor recurve will help your engine a lot.
Again, Carmen Faso is a good source...

Oh, I'm SOOOOOOOO sorry I missed the beginning of this thread...I guy wanted instant answers to stupid questions on an engine that hasnt been produced in 43 years...darn,I miss all the fun...I'm guessing the "Vette Shop" guy isn't the place I'd want to take any of my car....Just thinking out loud

I'm only 30 so not as experienced as some, but I don't understand why so many guys drive a vette!? I guess maybe I like to be a little different. That's why I bought my wildcat, Ive only found 1 other wildcat in my area and it's 45 minutes away. My grandfather has a 66 wildcat convertible but he's 15 hours away. I hope to take it to the local summer car shows this year. I'd love to hear from all the other wildcat owners!

P.S. I have an uncle who owns a 69 stingray and a Z06, so I asked him if he was compensating for something?? He replied" what do you mean?"
