OUR 350, part II

cleaned the top and cut parallel surfaces for locating later after its cut in half and ready for REAL WELD. i rough drilled holes in the adapters plates for visual purposes. put them on the dummy block with the intake. side to side port location from mopar to buick didnt look to good with the rough drilled holes. wonder if there is a difference bewtween a mopar and offenhauser intake. going to be close on finishing the ports. hopefully i wont have to buy more material.
but the s/c looks good sitting on top of the engine

roughed milled the intake plate ports. looks like with a little fudging it will work. may still have to make a riser for top of intake. i should be semi finished by end of march.
meanwhile, picked up a set of carrillo rods for a 351 ford for the engine.$200, cant beat that deal. let's see, we have a buick block, mopar intake, chevy pistons, ford c rods.....what am i missing...

it was a deal i couldnt pass up. i think i can make them work. hopefully will know by the end of march. i know i'm driving my machine shop nuts. lot of variables. and the bill will be $$$.
besides, you know i dont do things according to hoyle.

rods came today. cool. looking like they will work, plus lighter too.

finished rough cutting the intake. about 5 lbs now. if you look at an offy 5615, the only part left is the 4 legs and a middle rectangular box. now to finish mill all of it. match it up to the adapter plates(big pain is drilling the intake bolt holes) and then weld it back together. next is to machine the top plate, line it up and weld that on to the intake.
pretty simple process.

nobody makes anything for the 350's, so i have to make it myself. mostly just to prove it can be done.
and there is about a bushel of chips on the floor. more to come.

What is most amusing Johnny, is that you can do just about anything to an engine part to make it fit your Buick 350, but to do something as technical as posting a few pictures, that is out of the question.LOL

cant program a vcr(age showing there), cant reset the clock in my truck, cant do the digital camera routine...just too techy for me. wish i had one more machine, there would be an aluminum 350 block being made.
what do you want to build? maybe i can help.

took the intake(2 pcs) over to the weld shop to have welded fro the first step. guy looked at me as if i had two heads. dont understand why. get it back next week for step two. and than back to the welder again. bring it back and get it ready for step three. when thats all done, i'll have to line up the s/c for the pulleys. got two options there. both are a pain until i see it finished.
borrowed a 440 intake to see how that fits. sbm are 84 deg, bbm are 110 deg. side to side the 440 lines up better than the sbm. but an inch would have to be cut out to fit the sbb. and still have to deal with the 110 deg issue. maybe have to use a thin adapter plate to fit. i'll have to scrounge around for a cheap intake to play with.

still waiting for intake to be finish welded. drill the bolt holes for the adapter plates. pain when heads are not the same for the bolt holes. wonder what the gm print has for tolerance. sheesh.
