Serpentine Conversion Kit
Buick 400, 430, & 455 V8
Metco's longtime affinity for the classic Buicks and our history of manufacturing precision pulleys and supercharger drives has led to the development of this serpentine conversion kit for the Buick V8.
This comprehensive kit will be complete and include everything necessary for the conversion. It will be offered in two configurations: for applications with power steering and for applications without power steering. The kit will not accommodate an A/C compressor on vehicles so equipped.
The kit will use an 8-rib belt for maximum grip and for an appearance appropriate for the powerful Buick engine. Installation will require little or no modification to the vehicle, and all accessories remain in their original locations. There will be no need to extend the alternator wiring or to change or replace the power steering hoses. This kit will fit vehicles equipped with an HEI or points-style distributor.
Details are subject to change, but as of this writing the kit will include the following:
- Billet Crank Pulley
- Billet Alternator Pulley
- Billet Power Steering Pulley Ring with Steel Pulley Hub
- Billet Water Pump Pulley
- (3) 90mm (3.50") Black Hard-Coat Anodized Idler Pulleys
- Billet Tensioner Bracket with Late Model GM Tensioner
- Steel and Billet Power Steering Pump Bracket Set with Integrated Attachment Point for Engine Torque Strap
- All Necessary Spacers, Hardware, and Serpentine Belt
As mentioned, this kit is in development. The pictures show an early, pre-production mock-up, and minor revisions are expected. The very first kit has been installed on Big Red, the 1972 GS Stage I owned by Ron Kincaid.
We hope to set the retail price for the kit with provision for power steering around $1000, with the manual steering kit priced at a few hundred dollars less. We expect to be ready to ship production kits in late May 2011.
